Hi Everyone....Warning.. Newbie here

Hi Everyone.
I am Carolyn and I am embarking on a new adventure.
I just bought a Old Sunline.
I may not fit in here because it is a 1972!
I have been searching this board for a little over a week and I have yet to see anyone post anything older than the 80's, so I may be alone here.
I have a past with RV's because of my parents had 2 on a lot in the Adriondacks in NY. Now, I am married, 5 kids ~ 5,3 & 14 month triplets, I thought it would be fun for the family to have a "project"and then adventures!
I found this trailer for a good buy and of couse it needs tons of work. But I think we can handle it. The trailer itself it solid and really needs interier work mainly and a good paint job!
I have no info about the trailer. So I am going in this blind. It is a small one 14-15' and I think will handle our family while the kids are still small.
Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Carolyn,

First, welcome! You will find that there are a number folks here ready and willing to help with any question that you might have. If we (collectively) can not come up with a good answer, we probably know where to find one.

Second, once a trailer is about 20+ years old, the age loses importance. Few, if any, of the problems you will encounter with your trailer will be year and model specific. Several of us are on our third, fourth, fifth or more trailers with histories dating back many years.

(My first trailer was a '65 Avalon. The things I dealt with in that trailer are the same things that folks are dealing with today with their much newer rigs.)

Many of the discussions you will see here will have at least some relevance to your unit. So, hang in there, and as you get working on your rig and questions arise, let us know. We'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Thank You Steve.

I am excited to learn anything I can about these.

I have lots of experience in "flipping" houses. As we did ours 12 years ago.
So my thought process was, "How hard could this be?"

Somehow I think I will eat the words!

I have tons of questions.
I will begin with one for now.

What is a common mistake made when fixing up these trailers?.....(Just looking to avoid anything I can.

I can't think of a single most common mistake. Every trailer is different, and they all have their quirks. Just be alert for problems, no matter what you are working on.

I guess I would urge you to first pay special attention to the roof and general weather tightness. Your profile doesn't say where you are located, but winter in most of the northern half of the US bring water and freeze/thaw problems that can plague a trailer.

If you haven't done so already, read some of the winterizing threads here and do whatever you can to protect and secure your trailer.

Welcome Carolyn!

I would be very interested in seeing pics of your trailer. I must say, your trailer is the second oldest known Sunline to exist still, possibly only the third oldest.

Most of the time, when a new member joins, I have some idea what their trailer looks like, but yours I have no clue. I don't even know what the logos look like.

If you have any pics and have a way to post pics, please do, and if you don't, PM me. I'll send you my e-mail address and I'll post them for you. They'll also help everyone else to see what you have if you have a question. For example, if you were to post a pic of the roof, one of us could look at the pic and point out possible problems.

Jon

Thank You Steve & Jon.

Ok. As for winterizing, yes, we are in the Hudson Valley in NY
We just brought it home today and I ventured into it this evening to begin the cleaning process and I am thinking I need to tarp it to be safe. I am unsure about doing anything more to the under side. We plan on jacking it up too. We put "Item 4" under it, but need to finish that as we just didn't have enough.
Jon,
As for Pictures. Sure I can post some. I will take some tomorrow when I get home form work and try to get them on here.
I have to admit, I was a bit sad to read that mine is one of "the" oldest. But at the same time, I am hoping I can make this eventually what Airstream is today. As a previous Non-RV person, I at least know how valuable they are. So why not get the Sunline the same reputation!

How do I find that number?
Is it located somewhere on the RV?

Carolyn,

I just happened to come across this pic...I forgot I had it. I have it labeled as a '74, but I don't know how true it is. Unfortunately, that's all I know about it:
