Hello! New Member (?) and my questionable trailer

Hello everybody!

Last year my husband and I purchased a tiny trailer. The previous owner did a whole reno. Top off, frame sandblasted and powder-coated, new electric brakes, new floor, new walls, new ceiling, rebuilt all the cupboards.... So basically a new trailer. He did say that he kept the layout the same. The exterior is the only thing original as far as I can tell. I posted pictures on the Tin Can Tourist facebook group and people seem to think our little gem is a Sunline of some sort. So here I am... any ideas? Is it even a Sunline? lol!!!

Hi Marie,

Welcome to Sunline Owners Club. And congrats on your new camper.

The shape of the camper is different than I have seen before on a Sunline, but that is not to say it's not a Sunline. Do not know if that shape was changed during the rebuild or not.

If you can post the first part of the VIN number, we can help decode it to tell if it is is a Sunline.

Hope this helps.

John

PS. What does the camper title declare the make and model as?

PS2. We have a member Sunline Fan who is our guru on the older campers. He should be along shortly and I'm sure comment.

Hi John,

Thanks for replying.
I don't think that the shape changed with the rebuild, but who knows.... There are no identification stickers or tags anywhere, and I can't find a VIN. It may have been covered when the trailer frame was sandblasted and repainted.
Because the previous owner couldn't find any identification markings either, the title is just for a homemade trailer.

H'mm. Well if the shape did not change, I'm not totally sure about the brand. I myself do not recall ever seeing a front and rear tapered roof line on a Sunline like that. We have Sunline brochures on many Sunlines all the way back to 1975 on travel trailers.

You can try and look at them and see if the outside shape lines up and then the inside floor plan for the year on single axles camper. Go to the FILES section, a tab at the top of the forum, and click it while logged in. Then go to brochures and click on the year and look. It will be a hunt, but it might help. I forget what year Sunline stopped making single axle campers. I think somewhere in the mid 90's. I looked quick and of the few I saw in the last 70's, all the roof lines were straight until it started into the front and rear wall curved blend.

The title being "Homemade". Yes, that is a work around when nothing can be found and the camper is so overhauled. Good for the owner trying to title it, just not for someone trying to find it's heritage.

Hope this helps

John

I don't think it's a Sunline. I have seen that shape of a trailer before, I just can't place the brand right now. Unfortunately it's a bit too new for Tim Heintz to identify too.

My parents had a Shasta back in the 60's with a similar shape:

Google vintage travel trailers and Pininterst will pop up, with many old pics to compare to. I hope the link above shows a pic.
