Hello from a newbie

Hello all. Just picked up a 1986 sunline T 1550. It's in good condition. All systems seem to work. It's our first time for something like this. Tent campers for a long time, but now looking for more comfort. Tow vehicle will be 2002 chevy astro van. Looking at a classIII/IV Drawtite hitch rated at 350lb TW 3500lb capacity. Any comments? Weights listed in brochure show 1910lbs for GVW, but I get a lot of comments from trailer outlets that it seems light. Also the trailer has weight distribution bars which seems odd with the relatively low weights. Any advice would be welcome.

Congrats on your "new" Sunline and welcome to the forum.

Looking at the brochure ( http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/do...e%20Saturn.pdf ) , it looks like that 1910# is the dry weight. It shows the axle weight empty as 1680#, add 230# for tongue weight gives 1910#. The Gross Axle Weight Rating is 2630# plus tongue weight. I think a realistic GVWR would be closer to 2900 to 3000#.

Thanks for the info Gene. Actually went with a higher rated hitch. 500lb tongue weight 5000lb capacity.

Hi! Your setup sounds familiar. Here's our 1985 T-1550 pulled by our 2003 Astro Van. This van came with the hitch and tow package already installed. We haven't had any problems so far. This is our fourth year with this camper, we had pop-ups before. Happy camping!!
