Greetings from Winchester TN

My wife and I purchased our first camper last night. It's a 2004 Sunline T-2199 and we are excited about getting it ready to hit the road to see Grandchildren around the country.
I know we need to do some work on the trailer and test everything out, so any input for a newbie is very welcome.

So happy I found this group!

John and Ruthie Byrum

Welcome John and Ruthie! That's a unique floorplan you have! What needs to be done to the trailer?

Welcome John and Ruthie!

Glad you found us and congrats on your new Sunny!

We are here to help with most anything from towing a camper, fixing a camper, maintaining a camper, camping in the camper, whatever you need to do with a camper... This is the place for Sunline camper info.

You asked for any input for a person new to a camper, there is learning curve for the first time travel trailer user. We have lot of info on our site already and we are very open to helping you with your questions. There are no dumb questions here, so just ask if you cannot find what you are looking for. We were all new to this at one time.

As SunlineFan said, you have a unique floor plan. A nice layout and not very common. However the way the camper is built and how it works is very common. Sunline kept the same quality across all camper floor plans in the series, in your case the Solaris line, they just moved the floor plan around. So we can help you even if we do not have the exact same floor plan.

Good luck and happy camping this season.

John

Congratulations, and welcome! Hopefully you have the Sunline notebook with all the individual instructions for systems. That will help. Some first time campers try camping in their driveway first to test everything out. That way if there's an issue, or you forgot something you can run in the house for supplies.

Thank you

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
With this being my first Travel Trailer, I know absolutely nothing about them or how to properly use one, so I've been scouring the net trying to learn all I can.
The story on my T-2199 is that it was purchased new by an older couple and the husband died before they ever used it, so it sat for 12 years and never used. All of the wear indications point to that being a true story. The guy I got it from has had it for a year and never used it because he found a water leak in the rear roof area that had rotted the truss. He had that section of the roof repaired professionally and it looks like they did a pretty good job.
I have no idea if this story is true, but the trailer appears completely new on the inside.
From my brief inspections I know that I need to do some water sealing on the rest of the exterior and replace a dry rotted filler hose for the fresh water tank. It's going to be fun learning about this thing, but I wish I could find an owners/service manual for it.
Thanks again for the warm welcome!

John

Hi John,

This post may help you on the roof. If the camper sat that long, I would recommend you do a good roof inspection on all the caulking yourself. And it may need a good cleaning too. This post can help on how to inspect and touch up the caulking. If the caulking is all dried out and crusty, let's talk as there may be more then just touch up in this case.

One of the new leanings of owning a camper is how to care for your camper roof which is very different then a house roof. Also to learn how campers get water infected so you can take of the needed maintenance to prevent it.

Also, your roof is "not" a direct walk on roof unless you take precautions. That link will also show how to put a tarp down, plywood pieces across the rafters and then you can get on it. If not, you can accidentally go through it.

If you do not really know what is good or bad on the roof, take some pics and post them. We can help you through this.

A manual, if your camper did not come with one, you can download one from our site on the "Sunline" parts. The appliances have their own manuals and we have some of them or you can download them from the manufactures. See this link. http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f1...ual-12805.html

Hope this helps

John
