Camper might be a sunline

I just purchased a small camper -- maybe 13 to 15 foot. The title says it is a 1971, Make: Pro, Body Style: CT. I've looked everywhere for the "pro" abbreviation thinking it might be a prowler or prolite or something similar but have found nothing similar. Interestingly enough I saw an inspection sticker inside one of the cabinets that said sunline coaches. There are no decals but there is an outline (faded) where an old decal once was and it looks as if it might match the older sunline decals. What can I do to figure all this out? It's a darling little camper in great shape. I haven't taken photos yet but will tomorrow. Thx!

Welcome to forum.
Send in a photo. Sunline Fan CAN IDENTIFY if it's a Sunline. He's our historian.

Yep, that's most certainly a Sunline! Not sure why they stripped the decals off though.

It's going to be a 1978 or 1979 13.5' RD (rear door). There's a slim chance of early 1980 as well, because the Sunline decal distinguished that, which you don't have here.

I'll need a VIN to ID whether 78 or 79, they were visually identical. VIN will be stamped into the left side of the front coupler. May be some layers of paint over it.

That VIN you have on the title looks like a VIN issued by the state of Illinois when someone applies for a lost/homemade trailer title.

Thanks so much Sunline Fan! Now the question, why would the duplicate title have the make listed as PRO? Now I'm beginning to wonder if vin on title will match vin on trailer. And . . . what if it doesn't? Any advice?

By the way, the title is a Kentucky title.

Hard to say. Kentucky doesn't require some trailers to be registered in state, so it's possible the title was lost and they had nothing to go by, so they just issued the pro thing. The simple way would be to take it to a police station, have them fill out a form verifying they've seen the correct VIN and what it is, then proceed. You could always do this and see if you could get it corrected.

I would be very surprised if the VIN matched what's on the trailer.

Now that I think about it, part of your VIN should be on that quality control sheet in the closet. You don't happen to have a pic of that handy, do you?

No I don't have a pic of the quality control sheet right now but will take one tomorrow and post here as well as the vin # on the trailer. I have a state police station just one mile away. I will give that a shot if the vin#'s don't match. Thanks so much for all your help.

Awesome. Hopefully once you get the accurate info figured out there (and it won't hurt to print a copy of this), take it with you to help them straighten it out.

If you got tags for it from Illinois I would not rock the boat! Some thing here in Maine that old does not require a title just a bill of sale

Problem is, I don't have tags yet. I haven't transferred the title. Just bought it this week. I just want a clean title in case I ever decide to sell it again.

Ok here's the extra stuff I've found today uploaded in photos. I cannot find the vin #. Tell me exactly what the "coupler" is so I know where to sand to find it. Thanks again for all your help!

Welcome to SOC.

The coupler in this case being the trailer hitch. The vin# would be on the driver side "A" frame arm and near the front.

Due to an error in vin#, I had to go to DMV to get verification. In CT there has been a cut-back on the satillite DMV abilities to be full service. The one near me couldn't do verfications, thus I had to go to the main state facility.

My bill of sale from the PO had the right vin#, they just hadn't ever registered it in CT. The seller to them had the wrong vin#.

It cost me time, but wasn't a big issue here in CT.

Good luck and enjoy your trailer.

Thanks, Bunjin! Would it be on top on the driver side or on the side of the hitch?

Side. Normally it is a little silver plate rivoted to the frame. This could have been painted over by PO's however. It should be about at the jack area just forward of propane tanks.

Found it! Vin #511280 -- just guessing it's a 1980 then, huh? Would you be kind enough to tell me from the photos what's original and what's not? It has a small shower in it as well as a toilet and a sink. If you prefer to write me at my personal email, it's modglinb@gmail.com. Thanks so much for all of your help! Betsy
