1982 Sunline Converter question.

New to the forum and looking forward to tapping into all you camper experts.
Question, my 110v line goes to breaker box then on to converter. Strange thing is, when I opened the front cover I found all the wires disconnected from the converter and tied together to run off the battery only.(so battery is running interior lights and not charging off converter) When converter is plugged in, voltage out to each of the four fuse circuits reads only 6V. Did the previous owner bypass this because it is not putting out 12V? Not sure how to test this. Thanks for any help.

The older converters had two circuits one to light the lights the other to charge the battery. When the RV is plugged in the battery is disconnected just the converter is lighting the lights and the second circuit is charging the battery. Often the relay failed and stuck in the charge mode so when it was unplugged the lights.pump etc would not work this I'm going to guess is why they tinkered the wiring. You best bet would be to replace the old one with a modern 3 stage charger for many reasons no more relays, far better battery charging, simplicity of wiring, greater 12 volt output and greatly improved house power usage.

Thanks for your time and expert advice. I will look into a 3 stage charger and just replace.
