Need help with closing slideout 2004 264s
Hi all - I have my dads sunline trailer. He passed away last year and I do not know how to operate it. The slideout is open and I am afraid to close it. Are there locks in place that I have to undo before I hit that power button? I know that the power works but it won't close.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the SOC!
If you have the year and model number of the camper, it might help a bit. I have some questions for you.
1) Has the camper been plugged in to shore power (120V)?
2) How old is the battery?
3) When you tried pressing the slide button, did you hear a motor trying to run?
4) If the slide has been out for a long time, has it's roof been cleaned off?
If the camper has not been plugged into 120V power, the battery may not have enough juice to move the slide. If the battery is old, it may not be capable of holding enough juice to move the slide. If all else fails, there should be a handle with the camper, to retract the slide in an emergency. If you end up having to use it, do not turn it very hard. The slideout motor has a gearbox that is there to keep the motor from having to work too hard. Turning the handle with too much force, can damage the slide mechanism.
We look forward to hearing back from you..
Again, welcome!

Here's a picture of a more common slide mechanism, courtesy of JohnB. It will give you an idea of what the slide mechanism looks like. If you look in the top circle, you will see where the manual crank handle attaches.

Thanks. It is a 2004 T-264s Solaris.
So there are no locks internal or external? We initially used the crank out and then found the switch for the power. The power works but someone told us that it locks in place once it's open so I was afraid to close it.

The only "Locks" Sunline ever used, were called transit bars. They are metal pipe, with rubber tips. They go between the top of the slide flange and the side wall of the camper, when the slide is IN. They were designed, to keep the top of the slide from tipping outward while traveling. There are no locks, to hold the slide out. The electric slide mechanism does that.

Retracting it there is no lock. It does drop down an inch or so to be level. Some of the older slides had two tension rods that were installed between the inside of the trailer wall and the flange of the slide wall. But this was when the slide was closed.
Edit: Gary and I posted asr thhe same time!!

Hi Karen,
In your 2004 model, these are the "transit" bars the folks are talking about. The are used when towing down the road. These "must" be taken out before extending the slide out. Like Gary said, a piece of pipe with 2 rubber chair feet on the ends.
When the press the button the slide will start to come in. It will reach full in and then the motor will stop, then let your finger off the button.
Good luck and welcome to the club. That is a nice camper you have, a very popular model.
John
