Centurion 3000CS 4500 replacement

Hello my fellow happy campers.... I need to replace the Centurion 3000 CS 4500 in my 02 Solaris T280SR. Can someone tell me where to get one and/or what the compatible replacement is? I want to replace the entire unit - breaker box and converter. Thanks for your time in advance.

I wouldn’t change out the whole thing unless you really had to. Mine was a different manufacturer (wpp), but I was able to switch out just the converter, which saved a ton of work. I believe the progressive dynamics converters are very good as are the powermaxx units (which I have).

Well the converter is bad and the fuse panel had a hot wire that fried the board. So....gonna change the thing out. I mean it’s from 2002 and it probably needs updated anyways. I found this Boondocker 4 Stage Power Center 60 Amp (BD 1260PC)

I guess this is what I need. Right?

Hi Lisa,

The Boondocker Tod was talking about and the one you linked Boondocker 4 Stage Power Center 60 Amp (BD 1260PC)
has all the right features you need. For the 12 VDC side (for the battery,) it has a 3 stage smart charger with a desulfate mode and 15 DC circuits. On the 120 volt AC, it has enough room for double breakers to have a 30 amp main and 5 branch circuit breakers.

I have never used one, but by the spec's it is a good match. Warranty is 3 years.

Another good one is the Progressive Dynamics. This one, sold on the same site you listed. The PD 4060 PD4060 60 Amp Inteli-Power Mighty Mini Power Center

For the 12 VDC side (for the battery,) it has a 3 stage smart charger and with a desulfate mode and 12 DC circuits.

On the 120 AC side it has enough room for double breakers to have a 30 amp main and 5 branch circuit breakers.

I have used the Progressive Dynamics converter and I am very pleased with it. I have not used their power center however they have high quality so it should be good. It is made in the USA and has a 2 year warranty.

Since Tod has used the Boondocker and pleased with it, you have 2 good choices between the brands. The number of AC and DC circuits should cover your needs but check in case someone added more then the factory had.

A few tips regardless of which brand.

1. Before buying, read over the mounting space clearance requirements for proper cooling. Odds are high both are a different size then the older Centurion you are replacing. The manuals talk about how much free space is to be around the unit for good airflow.

2. When hooking up the unit, takes special note to the wire colors. Especially the white wire. Sunline used white braided wires for 12 VDC negative and they also used Romex style cable with a solid wire white for 120 VAC neutral. Make sure those 2 sets of white wires do not get mixed up with each other. Each has its own buss bar (terminal strip) and they are not to be tied together and have to be seperate. While white 12 VDC is common to earth ground by way of the camper frame ground, the 120 VAC white AC neutral wire is isolated from the frame ground and earth ground for proper operation.

I have bought from Best Converter.com before (the place you linked) and had a positive outcome. They are an authorized distributor of their products and all the warranties will work. It seems some other sellers have figured out a why to cheat the system. Read more here Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power Converters

Hope this helps and good luck

Thanks

John

I agree on this recommendation for best converter. They know their stuff, he can tell you if there is a direct replacement and what your options are. I found him (randy/owner) a little hard to talk to, but he knew exactly what he was talking about, just not great at explaining on the phone. I was also replacing the converter on the road as I killed ours just before leaving on a big trip. I’m glad I listened to him, he saved me a bunch of work.

I bought a powermax partially because they had a direct replacement for my converter (wfco) without changing the other stuff. My feeling is that the pd units are more polished and have a great reputation, I would have bought one had it worked for me.

Powermax makes the Boondocker line, FYI if that didn’t come through.

Mine was a complete gut and trash it was a old one with the fuse panel built in and a ferroresonant transformer poor battery charger but good at lighting lights so a modern upgrade was the answer it actually was the first thing I did to the camper when I got it.
