Sunday at church I was asked about the cost of fuel when towing. I responded that it was not a significant costs and realized tht towing for a retired RVer is not significant but for a working person it can be significant.

In driving a loop of the US in 6 months we tow about 8000 miles. At ten miles to the gallon that amounts to 800 gallons or about $2000 worth of gas or about $330 a month averaging about $10 a day. On the other had a working person might tow 400 miles in a weekend and spend $100 on gas averaging $50 a day.

Conclusion: retirement is wonderful.

I tow the T-1661 with a Pontiac dustbuster van. When I circled the UP I got 10-12 mpg at 55 mph. Later on I learned to drive it with a lighter foot and can get 14-16 mpg.

I agree it is all in the wind profile. When I haul a load of firewood with my 5x8 utility trailer, it weighs more but is much easier to tow and can get 18-20 mpg. Towing the trailer empty is not much different on gas.
