Hi Campnut,

Sorry I did not see your post earlier, my son has a 96 Jimmy with the 4.3 and he use to tow his Coleman Mesa PU with too. Check your owners manual for the engine and rear axle ratio for the tow rating. Look around page 4-48 area there should be a chart for engine size, 4 x 4 or 2 x 4, auto or manual transmission and rear axle ratio. Some of the S15's of that era had a 4,000 or up to 5,500# tow rating pending your setup, but do not know if yours has the aux tranny cooler or not. Getting rid of the excess tranny heat is something the TT will bring more then the PU will due to the extra wind drag.

The 1990 T1550 weighed 2,065# empty with a GVWR of 3,000#. Pending what you have in the truck for cargo, from a pulling perspective you may be within the ratings.

The next is camper tongue weight (TW). The catalog empty weight of the tongue is 235#. Loaded it could be 350 to 400#. The loaded TW is something to keep track of on this small of a truck. If you have 2 adults, some gear in the back of the truck and 350 to 400# TW you could be approaching or over the rear axle limit. A weight distrusting hitch can help on some of this, however you will need the right truck receiver to allow it to be used. Does yours have a 2" receiver on it and what is the rating in "weight distributing" mode?

It is not that your truck cannot tow the camper, it is that you will need to measure the weight of the truck axles and the loaded weights on the camper and then set up the truck to handle the TW and verify the tranny cooler. May need to move excess gear from the truck to the camper.

If you want to look into this more, we can help point you where to go looking.

Also I'm assuming your already have a brake controller? If not, this is a must on the Sunline of this size.

Good luck and hope this helps

John

Thanks for the reply John.

It shows I have a 5100# tow rating according to the book. I am adding trans cooler and getting a weight distributing hitch. I have a class 3 and 2" receiver. I also planned on the brake controller and will be getting it soon.

Planning on getting all set up and making it to the 2015 outing at Buttonwood.

Thanks again,

John

Hi,

a quick question regarding the wires to the 12 volt battery on a 2003 T1950 travel trailer. I just bought the trailer and the wires to the battery were disconnected when I got it. There are two wires leading from the trailer to the battery...one is red the other is white. a couple of days ago I connected the red wire to the positive battery terminal and the white wire to the negative terminal thinking that was correct. The next day no lights in the trailer work. I have plugged the trailer into shore 110 power and still nothing is working. Did I connect the wire correctly?

Thanks for your help on this...we're planning on leaving on an extended trip on Monday and need it working by then.

On your 2003 Sunline, yes for the battery wiring, red is (+) positive and white (-) negative on the battery.

You may have something else going on. When you say "nothing is working" when you plug into shore power, please look at lots of things to see what is and what is not working. "All" is pretty encompassing.

Is the microwave numbers/lights inside working? This is 120 VAC but it should be on if you are plugged into shore power unless a breaker is tripped or no power is getting to it. Or try a wall outlet with a test light or other 120 VAC device?

Are any 12 VDC lights or any other 12 volt devices working? what about the light by the hitch, or light inside a cargo compartment? Or the fan in the bath room roof vent? Even the radio?

Trying to sort out if any electrical device is working, 120 VAC or 12 V DC. If both are dead when plugged into shore power, then it could be the power convertor is not powered up either and thus not making any 12 VDC, can't charge the battery or run the lights. And no 120 VAC items work either.

Do you have a volt meter? check the voltage at the battery. Read in at lest 1 decimal place. There is a big difference between 12.7 volts and 11.7. Worst case, on the tank panel there is a battery button. While not super accurate, in this case it may help, press the battery button and see what red light come on or not. On your 2003, the tank panel may look like this

Press the battery button and what light comes on?

Did you check the circuit breakers in the electrical panel? Are all of them on? I know a silly question, but are you sure the source the shore line power is plugged into is working?

Many thanks,
The breakers were turned off. Don't know how or by whom. Your response took me right to the problem.

John,
This is fantastic information. I wish I had discovered this forum years ago. I would have driven out to the meet & greet if I had known. Anyway, I guess the 2499 is off my list. Any suggestions for a "light" Sunline with walk-around queen and no slides?

Jim

If you can find one, the T-2453 is a mirror image of the 2499 floor plan. It's a 5,500# GVWR trailer with a dry tongue weight of 538. Loaded, mine had a TW of 820#.

The 2453 looks perfect. Is this simply a lightweight version of the 2499?

Thanks,
Jim

That is correct: frame is not as tall, lighter rated axles, a few other minor construction differences. Features are almost identical.

We had ours for 11 years and loved it dearly.

Hi Arlene,

Many of the actual spec's on your 2004 camper can be found in the 2004 Sunline Brochure located in our files section. The FILES tab at the top of the page is a hot key that will link you into that section if you are logged in. Look for Sunline Brochures and then 2004 and find your model.

Here is he FILES tab

Since you have a 2004 model, we have had some members upload a scanned copy of their manual. We have a 2003 manual and a 2005 manual and there is not a lot of difference between the two. See this post for more on how you can create your own manual from items that are already in the Files section and from the appliance manufacturer if we do not have them.
http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f1...ual-12805.html

And, you can post questions, any questions you may have. Create a new post in one of our forums that comes the closest to your topic and ask away. There are no dumb questions, so do not be concerned about asking just ask and we will try and help.

Hope this helps

John
