Gary..did you have to use wt dist bars with that setup? I am looking for something to tow my 1950 (350 # tongue wt) w/o having the bars to wrestle with..too old and disabled to deal with them..right now I have to depend on my bro to haul me around..lost my freedom to age. ;-(

I towed it all last year without bars. It did fine with this 3800 lb trailer and should be fine with your smaller one. I got a used wd setup I'm trying this year, just to take some of the bounce out of it. I sometimes wish I had a couple more hp on the hills, but you can never have enough hp when towing.

Pulling a 257sr with my 2015 RAM 1500 QC 4WD with 5.7 Hemi and 3.21 rear. Just enough trailer for the truck, or vice versa.

Oopps, I misread your post. Your trailer is bigger than mine , not smaller. In that case, I would have to say I would not want to go much heavier than the 3800 lb trailer I'm currently towing without bars.. and more HP than what my TrailBlazer can provide. I think your 350 lb tongue wt would be OK without bars, but the overall wt of the 1950 would be at the limit of what I would tow with this setup. TrailBlazer is rated for 5000 lbs but I think that's optimistic unless your in Florida and its level everywhere.

Janalee,

Your 1950 may only have a 380# tongue weight (from 95 brochure) when it was empty at the factory with no battery and no LP gas in the tanks and no added options.

I did not think you were going to empty the camper to move it were you?

With camping gear, LP gas, battery etc your dual axle 1950 could have a 550 to 650# loaded tongue weight. That would be too much for a Trailblazer to handle without a WD hitch. And as Gary stated, the pulling ability has issues too.

I understand the issues of the WD hitch, your question is a good one for a post of its own. As we become more senior, these WD hitches create a lifting situation to deal with. There are some options to help this depending on the truck one has and the camper.

Hope this helps

John

Someone had started a thread on a similar subject.

http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...tup-18556.html

The WD is a lot heavier than I expected. I don't consider myself a weakling but it is quite heavy, for me at least.

You know what they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." That truck looks pretty nice to me. I bet there's stuff you could do to it to make it get a little more power and perform better.

So my old dodge has finally been replaced. I still have it and I still have the 04 suburban(having engine issues). The wife and I decided to upgrade a little to a 2011 Ford F250 SD 4x4 with the 6.2 gas engine. It has 57000 miles on it. Never owned a Ford so we will see how it goes.IMG_20190427_171422_512.jpgIMG_20190427_171422_518.jpg
