Shore power and tv plug.

Can I be plugged into shore power while plugged into tow vehicle?

My own preferance is that I don't have the tow vehicle alternator buck heads with the converter. Most tow vehicles only connect power to the trailer when the engine is running.

If the TV has factory trailer wiring it will disconnect with the key off.

What brand truck?

Many GM's the battery charge line in the 7 wire plug on the back of the truck is live to the battery.

Fords, mine has a relay to disconnect with the ignition off.

I agree with Gene, I really do not want to test the truck running with the shore power convertor working on 120AC.

It "depends" on how your truck is wired if the shore line is powering the convertor will play havoc on the truck or not. When in doubt, pull the 7 wire plug when the convertor is running on shore power.

I never plug both in at the same time. Ever. Just 'cause. I've been an industrial maintenance electrician for 35+ years, and I just don't like the idea of doing so.

If the maker of the TV was dumb enough not to have the 7 pin turn off with the key it would be possible to end up with two dead batteries if some thing went wrong with the charging system. As far as damage to the TV it would be unlikely the alternator is all ways connected to a battery any way so adding another one would have no effect. The charge rate is voltage dependent both batteries connected together will equal out and the charger will see them as a single battery. When I parked my old MH I by passed the isolator with a jumper and kept both batteries on charge with the on board charger all winter.

When I set up, I leave my truck running with the plug in until the slides are out and it's leveled (all electric) to save RV battery. If there's shore power I plug it in and disconnect the trailer before slides. I can't think of a good reason to have both plugged in even if you're parked for the night without disconnecting the hitch.
