Picked this up on Saturday...

Knowing that the dually is soon to need a transmission job and isn't rated to tow the fifth wheel when it's fully loaded, we went looking at trucks on Saturday. I looked at the towing specs for the Ford F250 and F350 SRW trucks and was surprised that the F350 was rated for 100lbs LESS than the F250. For fifth wheel towing, the F350 is rated for a 16,100lb trailer. The F250 is rated for a 16,200lb trailer. We test drove a short bed F250 and liked it, but the price was just too high and I refuse to tow the fifth wheel, with a short bed truck again.

On the way back home, we stopped at another Ford dealer and there was one crew cab F250 4x4 sitting all by itself, on the used lot. It was a 2011, with the 6.7 diesel. It also had 18,100 miles on it. I fell in love with it immediately! I had to find a salesman (Aren't they usually on you, like flies???) and asked for a test drive. The truck handles very nice and has tons more power than the dually!

When we got back from the test drive, I asked to see if we could swing a deal.... five hours later, I drove it off the lot! It already had a B&W turnover gooseneck ball mounted in it and I didn't see any need in drilling more holes in the bed, for a Reese setup. I managed to find a B&W companion 5th wheel hitch and got it installed Tuesday. I forgot to take any pics of the hitch install though... I will be taking lots more pics, but it'll have to wait a bit... Anyway, here's our new Sunny TV The pics were taken, just after we signed the papers!

Nice to finally hear the whole story! Congrats on a great ride!

Are you still keeping the dually around?

I would really like to, but not sure if my wallet can handle the added insurance costs...

Congrats on the new ride. I am looking forward to seeing it in person. I have heard lots of good things about the new 6.7L diesel.

Although the F250 has a higher tow rating than the F350 by 100lbs, what is the RAWR on it. Just wondering if they increased it from our 2008 F250 which was 6100lbs RAWR. Although we were under our RAWR. we still found we had to add air bags to it to help level it out when towing.

Bill,

The RAWR on this one is still 6,100lbs. I hope to hook Sunny to it as soon as the weather permits. I still need to get the hitch height and location adjusted. Right now, I have the hitch head at it's lowest and farthest-forward position. I know it will require some tweaking, but it'll be another learning experience. BTW: There are warnings all over the place, about not using a hitch setup like you have. They clearly state "No wedge type, or pivot point altering devices."

John,

The emblem on the door is for the 6.7 diesel..

It has 735lb-ft of torque and 390HP... Wow!

No home brew for this one.... Unfortunately...

When Kitty started going downhill, I no longer had any time to make it.. I still have tons of oil, but it needs "Brewing"

H'mm I thought they did some kind of chip upgrade and weaseled close to 800 ft lb of torque out it. Not that one of us mere gasser mortals would ever know torque like that any where north of 700 ft lbs......

John,

It is an XLT.. I have not verified which PCM version this truck has. With the correct version, the 400hp and 800ft-lbs of torque are available.
