New to us Towing Vehicle

So get the popcorn folks.. we traded the Ford F-350 for a Dodge Ram 2500 HD. Diesel just way too expensive here, but I know the gas won't be cheap for this one, either. One big reason for trade, is we needed extra seats for taking the two grandsters camping. The Ford only held three people, no crew cab. Can't leave one behind or there will be heck to pay ! This Dodge had low mileage (15,000) as it had just been used by the dealership for transporting cars to and from auction and should serve us well.

We usually name the vehicle after the salesman, but we've had a Jim/Jamesmobile (GMC Jimmy), so named it after the guy's last name.. Bratt. So Brattmobile for him and um... grandkid transport (don't tell them that LOL)

I don't know if I have done the siggy right, engine and such.. but you get the idea. Tom can correct me if it is not OK.

Deb

Deb and Tom,

Congrats on your new truck!

I must admit this is the first time I have heard of switching out a diesel to get a gasser to save on fuel...

I'm assuming yours is the 5.7 V8 with the 5 speed transmission?

Towing the Sunny she will have a drinking problem (ask me how I know....) but should handle your camper well. Towing these "bricks" we pull just plain uses fuel.

Good luck and happy towing in your new truck.

John

PS Just noticed, your camper is nick named the Wiggle Wagon.... Is there a story to go with this???

Hey John, Yup, he's already found out this one uses some gas ! But, yeah, we're out in the boonies and diesel is not available at every station and is now much higher than gasoline. We have one of those grocery cards that saves you on gas (not diesel) and often can get $1 off per gallon of gas (not diesel), so we can fill the Brattmobile up for a savings !

We always called the pop up the Wiggle Wagon as it wiggled down the road behind Mellow Yellow in the old days. (maybe there were other reasons, but my memory fails me in my old age !! LOL ) And, much as we tried to think of a creative name for the Sunline, we keep referring to it as the Wiggle Wagon !!

I have a question for you, is your new Ram 2wd or 4wd? If 4wd, how much drop in your hitch?

Reason I ask, I am trying to decide on how much of a drop shank I need for my 06 Ram 4wd.

Was just curious

Don, it is 4 WD. I just asked Tom the question. We've yet to hitch the truck to the Sunline. The yard is very soft still and he doesn't want to drive the truck on it yet. We have an anti-sway bar and he'll need to play with it in due time........ ( I know little about all this, Tom's the mechanic, me the computer person !)

If others can answer, I hope they will chime in.

Deb
