Ford Tranny Coolers

Here's what I have:

All covered up underneath:

And while I was out there, I got some overviews of the engine just for comparison. i couldn't easily get an overview without a ladder though. Sorry for the dirt...

And here's some from my mom's, which seems to be the same design:

Supposed to show how the wiring was tied up, but it'll have a dual purpose:

That seems small for a tranny cooler. Ford has put a cooler on the power steering. My F-150 had one and it was about that size. The tranny cooler on my Expedition is 3 or 4 times bigger than that. I haven't looked for a power steering cooler in this truck.

That does look like a power steering cooler. It is a fin and tube type. The trans cooler on my F150 is much larger and is a stacked plate type. The pics of the underchassis look to have the hoses going to the PS unit. Are you sure there is a towing package on this vehicle? I don't see a trans oil cooler. Of course it is very late and maybe I'm missing something?

that is indeed the power steering cooler, the tranny cooler is tough to find but it should be there between the rad and ac condensor, easies way to see it is from the top, there is a rubber cover that covers the top of the radiator it's held on with push pins if you pull a couple of those pins out and fold the cover back you can look right down to the tranny cooler,it's almost as wide as the rad. and about 6" high.if you need pics let me know I can take some of mine.here is a link for you jon if you look through it, it tells you alot about the cooler it's for 01 but 00-04 are the same for the superduty and 00-05(v-10) the same for the ex

Rich:

Ok, that makes sense. On the F150 it's up in front of everything. I didn't know that they sandwiched the trans cooler with the AC condenser and radiator on the Super Duty. You would think that the trans cooler should be in front of the AC condenser?
