Ford Super Duty/Excursion TT Mirror and OH Cab Light Install
Hi Everyone,
I recently added a new set of TT mirrors and OH cab lights to my Ex. However, since it isn't Sunline related, I'm not going to make a how-to post on here, unless someone wants it. I'd be glad to do it and have plenty of pictures to back everything up:

your mirror upgrade
hi, i would really appreciate this: I recently added a new set of TT mirrors and OH cab lights to my Ex. However, since it isn't Sunline related, I'm not going to make a how-to post on here, unless someone wants it. I'd be glad to do it and have plenty of pictures to back everything up: i just installed some power, heated, turn signal/running light mirrors onto my 2000 superduty that had no power mirrors at all on it, just those smalll mirrors i ha to move by hand. I need help and pics on how to wire both mirrors into the truck that had none, thanks a bunch!!!!!!!! my email address is: [swaanson1961@yahoo.com]

Here's a write-up that someone did on Ford Truck Enthusiasts. He's got most of the steps covered with pictures.
Installed Tow Mirrors - Pictures - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
I believe you can buy the tow mirrors in a manual version if you don't want to run the electric for them, but I'm not 100% sure since I didn't order these mirrors (they were a gift).
To make it possible to get the clearance lights to work, I ran a designated wire directly from the headlight switch to both sides, through the door.
Do you have power windows/locks on your SD? If not, then you probably would have more work into getting power mirrors. I'm guessing if that were the case, the hose thing to run wires between would be missing and the holes probably aren't cut.
My Excursion's original paddle mirrors already had power, heated mirrors with the turn signal arrow in the mirror glass, so the only electrical difference was the clearance light issue. I'm pretty sure the plugs themselves were the same, it's just the vehicle end socket was missing the wire for the clearance light. I just soldered in a wire piece to that wire and took it to the headlight switch area.
If you need a close up picture of anything in particular, let me know and I'll get it for you.

Jim,
From what I've read, the present model design of the F150 has the same door design as the previous F150 and your Expedition. Therefore, I think the '09-present tow mirrors for the F150 should fit. Don't know for sure though, so you'll want to do some investigating. They won't be cheap, but they are great to have and help a lot both with and without the trailer.
From what I've read, the mirrors should mount, but I'm not sure about the plug situation.

What reason was the gift for? Father's Day? Christmas? Maybe I need to make some hints. *wink*
Next time I'm at the dealership I'll ask about them. I did look at the new 2011 models and they said it was the same as what I have. Now to cross reference mirrors.
I am playing the Florida Lotto and Power Ball lotteries trying to get rich quick. So far about all I'm doing is breaking even.

update
i spent abput 8 hours including breaks and was able to wire in the turn signals and running lights from these mirrors into my truck. had to splice in each wire one at a time, then find the correct wire in the truck harness. but what i completed is working well. now ive got to find how to connect the power mirror part of the wiring into my truck. thanks for the feedback. i thought you had said u saved pics of everything you had done when you upgraded your rig, those would still be very helpful if you still have them??? thanks, bo.

I looked for them last night, but I did the job over three years ago. I couldn't find anything on my computer much beyond the pictures I posted (and some of the two different mirrors. I know I took pictures of the door panel removal/mirror removal, just like the guy on the link did. I never took any pictures of the custom wiring process though. Most of my pictures just show the main exterior differences between the new and old.
If you would like a picture of the light switch wiring, I'd be glad to get that for you tomorrow evening. I have the switch with the automatic lights and fogs option- if yours is different, the wire colors may not be the same.
Question: Have you installed a mirror adjustment switch? It would be great if you could just add in some harnesses to plug into an existing plug to get your mirror power, but I doubt Ford would make it that easy. I'm not sure how exactly the mirrors work, like what makes them all move and heat the way they do, because as far as I know, there's not a wiring schematic out there for them. I just found the clearance light wire by looking for the one that didn't have a wire on the other side of the plug.
This is one project I wish I took more pictures of, but it was winter and cold in the garage. There wasn't much special to the new wire, I pretty much just ran it along the bottom side of the dash and wire tied it to the metal crossmember up there.

They were a Christmas gift. Actually, I happened to be home when the UPS guy delivered them, so I actually found out early. I installed them later on Christmas day, and since everything was basically plug & play except that one wire, it was like a half hour to install.
If I recall, I believe I installed the mirrors and didn't wire up the clearance lights for a couple weeks until it warmed up a little. I still had the power mirror movement, mirror heat, and turn signals just like before, and I seem to recall the conversation with my dad where he tried to convince me to just forget the clearance lights. Like usual, I wouldn't let it go that easily...
