Yes, Another Vinyl Trim Insert Question

Hey all,

Finally getting around to the exterior of my remodel and I came into a slightly frustrating problem. I can't, for the life of me, find the correct trim for the outside corners. The trim that I got her with is pretty stretched out and ridge.

I'm almost positive that its 1" but I've tried 2 different brands and I can't get either to seat properly. One was a thicker than the what was on there and the second was roughly the same thickness. I'm assuming that its supposed to fit under the lip on either side but I can't get it slide in completely. When I do get it to slip in, it looks wavy.

Does anyone know what the original width is? Any help is greatly appreciated as usual.

Thanks

Hi SunSaturn87,

This is what I used.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Mine looks a little wavy too because of the screws. And when you are installing it, try not to pull on it or stretch it. Luckily it is warm now and should be easier for you to install. It was cold when I installed mine which made it harder.

Hmm. I've replaced it on '94 Sunlines before with no issue. It isn't the easiest job. Make sure the channels are really cleaned out good first, using a putty knife. Algae and stuff likes to build up inside there. Then, usually that putty knife can be a help to stuff it in the channel too, it will be a little tough.

See if this helps any.

I used to buy the Camco 1", and it is thicker. Then I found JR Products. JR Products :: Catalog

I have both their 1" and the 3/4" in the barn and I can measure the thickness for you if it will help any. Let me know and I can get the dim's for you.

Also, can be different widths used on the camper. I do not know your older one, but the newer ones use 2 different widths. 1" on the corner moldings and 3/4 " on cargo doors, entry doors and I think gutter rail. Trying to get 1" into where a 3/4" is needed is not impossible but very difficult and it looks all wrong too.

Hope this helps

John

Thanks for all the info everyone.

Turns out one of the previous owners had attempted to replace the trim and installed it "upside down". And me, never owning a camper before, followed how they had tried. I was about to order a narrower size when I saw the picture on Amazon of how it was being installed. Gave it a go and 45 minutes later, it was all installed and sealed back up. Just in time for the rain to come in!

Again, thank you all

Great news! Yeah, you can't always trust that something on an old trailer is original or correct.
