Winterizing question

After talking to Kitty about winterizing and her explaining the process, I have a question.

We have the bypass valve, that goes on the intake side of the pump. When bypassed, the valve allows no air/water/antifreeze to flow back towards the tank. Since that is the case, how does one remove the water that is in the line from the tank?

I blow mine out with compressed air foward from adn then thru the pump and back to the tank. 3 places to attach air hose. I have valves setup at the pump to allow this. It was not standard. Then I pump the pink stuff.

However:

Most times, pending setup, when you unhook the pump suction line it lets air in and the hose gravity drains back to the tanks. BUT this is coach specific. All campers are not made the same and there may be a natural trap in the hose some times.

Hope this helps

John

When you drain the tank, some of that water will leave the pipe and flow back into the tank. Since the tank is nearly empty and the pipe is not closed at the tank end, even if it does freeze, there is not enough water to break the pipe. When that little bit of water freezes and expands, it will expand in the direction of least resistance - the open end of the pipe into the tank.

Your fresh water tank is underneath the trailer so that pipe between the pump and the tank is a down hill path back to the tank. By the time freezing weather hits, that pipe will be virtually empty anyway.

And, if memory serves, the line between the tank and the pump is that high pressure flex stuff. A freeze in that type of piping can't hurt it. It's that translucent hard stuff that can rupture if not winterized. That and the valve in the toilet. Don't ask me how I know, but experience is a rough school master.

Thank you, John and Steve! I know it will be drained this year, as the PO removed the bypass valve for some unknown reason.

The hose from the tank, is the flexible hose with the braided cord inside it.
