Winterizing Owners manual instuctions ????

Was rereading the Owners manual instructions for Blowing out water lines with air. Didn't check the antifreeze instructions.

It said after the lines and blowen out to reopen all the fawcets, which I understand and agree with.

What I have never did and the instructions indicate using rolled up newspaper to wedge the toliet valve open. In other words opening up that vale as well.

Question is won't the seal on the flapper dry out, if left like that all winter ?

I always put antifreeze in the toliet bowel for the winter.

Just curious as to how many of you wedge open the toliet vale as indicated in the instructions ??

Any thoughts appreciated.

I do what you do, have for years and never had any adverse effects. I wonder if they're concerned the rubber seal may stick? Anyone ever have that problem?

I seem to remember mine has stuck on a couple occasions, but I don't think during the winter. I too put the pink stuff in the bowl.

However, when it has stuck has been in the summer after the first trip and before winterizing. Since it usually only gets one or two trips per year, flushing out well after each trip is essential. Since the water gets shut off to the coach (because I don't have a splitter and have to use the one spigot), the wand goes down with no water coming in through the toilet. When done, if the wand isn't turned back on to put a little water in the bowl, the valve closes dry.

I was reading those instructions too. They say to let the air out of the tires. What's the deal with that? Does anyone do that?

I let the "summer" air out and put the "winter" air in the tires, for the "winter". I don't want the summer air to freeze.

Is that what you mean ???
