window leak

One of my emergency exit windows has been leaking from the middle during heavy rains if the gutter drain has the flow going over the window. Is it possible that I just have to remove it using the emergency exit clamps and reseat the gasket or will I have to replace ther gasket? I have not undone the clamps due to fear of what I might find. I think PO might have opened the clamps at some time. It is a 2000 Sunline T-25.

i just had 2 windows leaking in the rear of my sunline, one was the emergency window, i took out the 30 or so screws, gently pried it out, scraped off the old sealing tape from the rv and window frame, applied a new putty tape around the window frame of the rv and reset the window, it was pretty easy, but tedious in my case removing 33 year old putty tape. so far so good but i do plan on laying a nice bead of silicone on top of the window edge where the water runs down, next weekend.

Hi J52

Is the leak around the window frame that swings open or around the outer flange that seals to the side of the camper?

Your year 2000 camper, I do not know the exact window that was in that year, does it hinge at the top and swing out?

If it leaks, your going to have to open it and yes the gasket may be toast. If the leak is from the outer flange frame into the camper, then the entire frame needs to come off and resealed using ideally butyl sealing tape.

Hope this helps

John

Window is hinged in the middle and opens with a knob that is turned. The leak is in the hinged area in the middle of the window. It seems like it is the part of the emergency window that comes out for exit.

John, I can't help how the window is, but a 2000 should have Hehr windows.

This sounds like the emergency window I have on mine. Mine has a foam gasket glued to the window frame that pivots out at the top. When the window is closed the foam gaskets compresses and creates a seal. This is just like a cargo hole door.

It may be your foam gasket is dry rotted out. Your going to have to open it and inspect to see if it is intact. Finding that exact foam gasket may be hard. Lowes/Home Depot may have something to get you by until you can find the exact shape that is in there. Look in the winter window/door sealing product area. Frost King makes a lot of the sealing materials like this.

Good luck and let us know how this comes out.

John
