Where to buy--- and get trailer tires installed.

So yesterday, I read the entire forum's postings on tire sizes and recommendations, but I have a different question.

IF you bought your tires online:

-where did you go to get them installed? After changing a puncture in the middle of the day while on the road I want no part of the work.

IF you bought at a retailer:

-which retailer did you choose?
-and did they install them with little or no trouble?

Installing Trailer Tires

Getting tires on a trailer is a real hassle. I take the wheels off on my driveway, two at a time, and truck them to a local shop solo. I'm lucky that these guys are fairly small and they can usually change the tires immediately while I wait because it's so much faster than moving vehicles around, hoisting them up etc.

I just did that today when I had a TPMS installed and balancing done.

Thought I would post a followup, as I have not seen many people post the damage$ from a "typical" install.

I have one charge which I need to take up with a manager tomorrow, as I can't understand the invoice.

Here it goes :

ST205/75R15 tires 5 @ $98.95 $494.75
Scrap tire charges 5 @ $3.25 $16.25
4? install charges @16.00 $64.00
State Tire fee @ $5.00
Shop Supplies ? $4.48
PA Sales Tax 7% $40.56

Total $625.04
I suppose I had to replace those 2002's sooner or later.

PS
Checking the mfg date, and seeing 0808 (February 200 priceless.

Mark:

I can appreciate your sentiment "0808 priceless." Were you able to specify a manufacturer's date range? If the supplier had shipped a set of tires that had been setting in the warehouse for a few years, would you have had the option to refuse them prior to installation?

My friend and I were checking out new tire options for his TV the other day. The tires in the shop ranged from 2008 back to 2005. They were selling them as brand new, but they had been setting around - aging - for a few years in some cases.

The ordering of these tires was quite accidental.

After I enquired at Goodyear, they said they would call back with info. Instead, they called back to say they ordered them, and they would be arrive in a few days.

I had planned a pro-rate/refusal demonstration had the dates shown an "old tire".

Now that I think about it, I only check one tire , so now I have some uncomfortable maneuvers to check the other four .

The only discrepency I see, PA sales tax is 6%... $35.07

Scrap tire charge is the amount per tire they charge you to dispose of the old tires.

My guess for the '4' install charges is for the 4 tires they mounted on the trailer, depending on what you had done, the reason it isn't 5 is they didn't charge you for installing/mounting the spare.

The PA state tire fee is recently adopted charge that one dollar is charged for the purchase of every new tire. The money goes into a tire recycling fund program to keep them out of our landfills.

Shop supplies cost is most likely the shrader valves and stems they used off their shelf.

Hope that helps.
Take care,
Jason
