Where are the circuit breakers???
Hello!
I'm hoping someone here can help me out with this.....this is from my new to me T220, I followed the shore line to find my electrical panel and this is what I found...I don't want to assume but shouldn't there be at least 1 circuit breaker (even my 15sc has 1 breaker)????? I've looked online to find any sort of diagrams but so far no luck....

Now that is down right scary. How ever it is wired properly that is good. You are relaying entirely on camp ground breakers is that a good thing? Good question. You need some breakers and some one that understands isolated neutral wiring. It looks like you have two circuits meaning you'll need at least two breakers, me I would add a main breaker at 30 amps more then any thing else the ability to turn off the power to your camper with out going out side and pulling the plug. The box is a 240 volt box so they will be need to jumper the two big lugs in the box other wise two breakers side by side will not work it really is a job for some one that understands high voltage wiring.

It looks like the old breaker might have gone bad so someone removed it and bypassed the breakerbox entirely. Not a good thing and needs to be fixed very soon.

yeah I knew it wasn't a good thing when I found it.....the rewiring isn't the issue (electrician in the family) but I was looking to see if there were any wiring diagrams out there to make life a little easier......I assumed there was at least a main breaker (15sc has just a main) but I kinda figured with the size of this camper I would need more than 1 breaker....

Generally they feed the main breaker backwards (breakers work both ways) so the black wire from the power cord would be connected to the terminal on the breaker and it back feeds the panel and the other breakers. The box is wired correctly so it's just a matter of lifting the black wires on the big terminal and connecting them to the breakers and a jumper between the two big terminals. It probably has two different gauge wires for the outlets and A/C (even if it has none it's usually prewired) one will be a #14 the other a #12 so you will need a 30 amp main, a 15 amp for the #14 and a 20 for the #12

Last week when we had a warmer day here (40*) before the blizzard, I got a chance to get in the trailer and really investigate this further. Only 2 circuits coming in (both #12 wire) with one for the AC and the other for the outlets.... so based on the limited amount of space I had to work with to replace the box, I went with a 20amp breaker for each circuit....

They do make double mini breakers that fit in the same slot as a standard single.
The main is a combo 30/20. Then you can have 15's or what other sizes you need.
See here,
Mine are Culter Hammer but other brands make them. A duplex 120 VAC breaker, 30/20 amp. Like this one but for your brand box.
Eaton / Cutler-Hammer / Westinghouse BD2030 Circuit Breakers | RELECTRIC
Here is Sq D if this is what you have
Square D / Schneider Electric HOMT2020230 Circuit Breakers | RELECTRIC
They use the 30 as the main sort of backwords, the 30 feed the mini bus bar or a 10 awg jumper to the next lug. So you can get a main 30 and up to 3 circuits if you need that many.
Hope this helps
John

If they are #12 wire you can protect them with up to 20 amps nothing more any thing less. That's a 4 circuit box so you have room for 4 breakers, 3 loads one main. That gives you one to grow on. The power cord is rated 30 amps and the outlet you plug into also so you can't go hog wild no electric washer/dryer.

Aren't the 2 breakers going to turn off the power to my camper without unplugging it? Yes a main would stop the power flow to the other breakers but to truly turn off all power to the camper I would still have to unplug it or shut down the receptacle breaker at the campground....seems to me a main breaker might be unecessary in this situation...

To me the main breaker inside the TT is a safety as anyother safety feature. What if the campground has defective equipment? We test the campground power post for polarity and adequate voltage but do we really know the breakers will trip when they should? I would rather have double protection when I can't be completely sure of the other person's equipment. Better safe than sorry. And, the cost is not that great when considering the problems it could solve. Cheap insurance. No breaker might be penny wise and pound foolish. JMO

Well yes and no. The main breaker will kill the power completely to the box the only thing that would be live is the cord between the main breaker and the camp ground. It would be possible to draw too much current from 2, 20 amp circuits in that case the main breaker would trip at the 30 amp point remember your cord is only good for 30 amps. It's all about protecting your self not relaying on the camp ground to do it for you. Breakers are cheap.

So I ended up putting in a 30a main and a tandem 20a for the 2 circuits....will post some pics as soon as I get my camera back up and running....
