Wedgewood Oven Repair

Hey guys! I own and live out of a 16' 1984 Sunline Travel Trailer that I love! We have done quite a few modifications to remedy some water damage and make it a better livable space for two adults and a dog.

The one big thing I wish we could use that does not work is the oven. The stove works great- all burners light quickly but the oven just wont start up! The pilot light will light and if I heat up the thermal bulb with a torch the safety valve opens and the oven lights but when the torch is taken off the thermal bulb the safety valve closes and no more propane is let through.

Wondering first what kind of tests I can do to figure out what the problem is/ if this sounds like a common problem what it may be? Second if there is anything I can do to remedy the problem?

Thank you for putting your brain together with mine to get this problem solved! I am always surprised by how many great people help out on these forums.

Hi,

This sounds like the thermocouple has gone bad, almost bad or out of position not getting warm enough by the pilot light . The bulb as you are calling it is the thermocouple. When it warms and gets hot enough it allows the gas valve to open and keeps it open. Since you are doing this with your grill lighter or other heat source you are over heating it, to make the thermocouple strong enough to open the gas valve.

Those are the basics of the thermocouple job. If you end up replacing it, need to make sure you get the same one Atwood spec'd out for it. I do not know the exact one used in your older camper.

Hope this helps

John
