water heater pipe broke!

i replaced my water heater, atwood 6gal, and since the old one was a 4gal, we were just a couple inches short of piping to fit on the far end valve. we put an extension with clamps on this pipe right at the water heater. thinking we were done and all was good, finally, the extension broke apart (water everywhere ) luckily no one was inside when this hot water exploded!

i'm not sure now how to make this extension. this pipe carries hot water to the rest of the camper and would therefore be a huge job to replace the whole pipe. is there a good extension i can use that maybe someone else has had experience with? my piping is from an 83 sunline, grey colored. tried to post a pic of the piping but for some reason i can't load it from my camera...

couldn't delete this thread...figured it out with the rv shop guy. we had the wrong type of piping and clamps for an extension like this. will replace it and should be good.
