Water Damage

I have been noticing a little soft spot by the kitchen door in our T-2570 and when I put my awning out the screws holding the bottom bracket to the camper was loose and rusted. So I decided to do a little probing. I found a lot of water damage after ripping up the vinyl. This Friday I am going to start replacing the rotted wood with pressure treated. I am going to try and add a few pics so you can see the damage. Any advice before I start this would be great. Thanks Ken

One problem you might run into is the vinyl flooring is stretched very tightly when it is installed in the factory. When you cut it to do floor work it may shrink substantially. We had two places in our 07' T-276SR that needed addtional supports installed underneath and ended up putting in laminate flooring because the vinyl was almost 1 1/2" short!!!

Here is a shot of the laminate:

Hi Kenneth,

One thing to add as you get into this. Any of the wood that is still wet must be totally dried out before closing it back up. If is also a good idea to use a product called Rot Dr.

Wood preservation, rot repair, and restoration using epoxy resin on boats and homes.

I used it when I fixed my rotted slide floor

It will kill and seal out any fungus from starting dry rot later to show up. Also heads up to buy the respirator they sell. The fumes will take you out.... with the respirator, no problem and 3 days later a well aired out camper will not have any smell left.

Good luck and looking forward to the progress pics.

John

Kenneth,

We bought some of that rot repair for our previous fifth wheel, but ended up not using it. If I can find it, would you be interested in it?
