Check out the dehumidifier this person put in. Click the first link in their list of mods. Their 2753 isn't the standard floorplan, so the dehumidifier that's under the sofa is really located across from the kitchen and next to the shower. I wish I knew who it is to ask them where they found it and how it works. I love that it's built in and out of the way.

A dehumidifier is nothing more then a A/C unit and I think with all the moisture in a camper it would be working over time. One of the biggest moisture makers is cooking with propane and of course a shower I usually just run the big vent (Fantastic fan) after cooking or a shower yeah it does cool it off but I can make up heat faster then I can get rid of moisture. My T1700 has little clips on the inside of the window frames and I was told they were for storm windows I often wondered if I could cut some thin clear plastic to fit. We usually start camping in early May and it can be some cold up here in Maine my last trip was late Nov to VT. So I could use storm windows! We have the luxury of a garage to put the camper in during the winter so I just open the vents and windows and it stays nice and dry.

What I was really thinking about is the summer months in S FL. ....the rainy season. The humidity level is pretty high (and hot) and the TT won't get used all that much. I was debating whether I wanted to run the AC occasionally or try a dehumifier to keep the interior air dry?

I guess it's 6 of 1 and a half a dozen of the other if you are going to be using it then the A/C other wise the dehumidifier. The dehumidifier uses less electricity but does not cool and it does need to be emptied unless there is a provision to drain it externally. I'm not sure if you would notice the difference in the humidity level going into a hot camper it would keep the camper drier though.

Well, the deal is I can buy a small DeH unit for $100 or less...like this:
Eva-Dry Mid-Size Dehumidifier - White (EDV-2200) : Target

that according to specs and reviews is designed for an area much larger than what I need. Operates relatively cheaply. I don't really care about the heat, as it will be for summer down time when not being used. I just want the mold/mildew moisture eliminated more or less.
Have to work out the dumping...thing

Yeah draining it will be problem if it's very humid it will fill up fast. I wonder if the one you are looking at has a bottom drain plug if it does maybe leave it in the kitchen sink or bath tub and let it drain into the gray tank.

Hi Sky,

We started this year using a dehumidifier in the camper but in the winter. We winter camp and humidity can be bad if one does not deal with it. We already vent constantly and have shrink wrap on the windows so I'm not into heavy sweat wet. For sure any shower we open the bath vent wide open and when using the range top.

This year I bought a humid-stat so I could see how we where doing with the vent method. While sort of OK we needed a new dehumidifier for the basement. I found a Frigidaire on sale at Lowes so we picked it up and I was going to try it out in the camper.

It for sure makes a difference. Between venting and the dehumidifier it worked very well. Noise is the thing. I set it and let it run at night as it is on the far end of the camper. At that distance it is no loader then the ceramic heater blower running every now and then. Seems from Friday night to Saturday it pulls out more water then Sat. night to Sunday. We also let it run some times during the day when listening to the blower is tolerable.

Ours is a 35 pint unit and draws 450 watts of power. I pull out about a quart to qt and a 1/2 over night. Sleeping is amazing how much moisture comes out.

I looked at the ratings on the EVA dry

EVA-DRY Mini Dehumidifier

This appears to be the biggest one the have and rate it at
Quote:
It's effectiveness is measured in gathering approximately 20.5 oz. of water per day at 86° F and 80% R.H.
If I read that right it is not a qt in 24 hours under some pretty high humidity. I am still learning on all this as we only used ours twice in the camper and both times the result was about the same. I pulled out more Friday night. May be that the fabric and everything else in the camper was more dried out after Friday and it did not have to work as hard on Saturday night.

If the unit was smaller and ran all the time then it may drop the moisture soaked in the camper itself (fabric, couch, wood etc) and then the smaller unit may be OK.

If you do get one of the EVA Dry ones please report back on the noise. I suspect it is less then ours. While ours is not as obnoxious as our older one of 20 years that died in the basement you know for sure it is on.

Even at the price in Target I could get 2 of them in my big camper and still be less money then the one we bought from Lowes.

Hope this helps. I know the needs are different but may be something to compare it too.

John

I am definitely going to give it a shot. I'll do a before and after on the humidity. AND I do not know if the Target model is the one or not.....we'll see. Cheap and small...and returnable!
