under carraige

new owners of 1987 sunline, discovered the axle and springs, even the metal bracing is all rusted and needs attention. What is the best way to get rid of the rust and deterioration of metal? wire brush and rustoleum paint?

Other than sand blasting I'm thinking you would end up with painted rust on the ground. I use a product called Fluid Film on my stuff up here in the salt belt it will not remove rust but it will stop it it can be bought in rattle cans. The rust is probably harmless I kind of doubt there was any prevention ever done at the factory.

mainah... Does Fluid Film catch dirt? Will riding down a dirt road cause a buildup of dirt when sand, like we have here in Florida, sticks to coated metal? If so I can see a sandpaper like quality if it is sprayed inside the hitch receiver, for instance.
