Tree branch thru roof

Went to check on my camper today and found a 2" hole in the roof from a branch. Fortunately it must have happened after our recent rain as there wasn't any signs of water damage. After removing the branch I covered the hole with gorilla tape. Need to make a more permanent repair, was thinking of just patching the rubber roof and fixing the hole inside by putting a flush patch on the ceiling board. Any other ideas or am I off base on this one.

For the rubber roof part, Eternabond is what is used to fix that type of repair.

The most important part of putting Eternabond down is getting the rubber prepped and cleaned proper before applying. Use either Eternaclean (works and smells like brake cleaner) or actetone. Both are high flash off solvents so they clean and then evaporate off quick.

Here is where I bought mine. This link is to the 4" wide roll. They also make 6" and 2" EternaBond RoofSeal White 4" x 50'

On the inside ceiling, that one is cosmetic for the most part. Do what ever looks best to match your ceiling. It is not structrual at this point

Hope this helps

John

If the hole inside is not too large, you may find a rectangular or round blank cover plate in the electrical aisle of your local home improvement store that will cover the damage and still look appropriate. They're available in several different colors.

JohnB- thanks for the link on the eternabond, that's what I was planning to use. Just a little sickening when I first saw it. Hate to have a patch on the ceiling board but think a patch is less intrusive than trying to match and replace an entire piece of ceiling board.

Steve- thanks for the idea of a cover plate, that might work as the hole is about 2" in diameter. It's real close to the side wall of the bedroom above the mirror.

why not cover the hole with a new smoke detector?
