As for the tires, I went with 5 new Goodyear Marathons, dated 24th week of 2010, and "made in USA". Air pressure is at about 62 psi cold. Tried the 65 psi and the TT just bounces too much for my comfort...seems to move around alot side to side, or be more active back there at max psi. So I dropped to 62 psi and way better, based on a short trip last weekend. Also upped the truck pressure close to max psi. Leaving tomorrow morning for 5 hour trip to Fish Creek Pond in Adirondacks for the week, so we'll see how well everything proforms on a longer trip.

Thank you all for the help with tires and clean-up!

"see ya on the road"
Being the chemical products didn't take all the black off the plastic. I would first try: "White" Polishing Compound if that don't work then use the "Orange" Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound & finish with the White Compound then Wax it. That should take the remaining black marks off.

Glad to here you got fresh USA made Marathons, I will be looking for them in a few months.
Have a good trip...

Tire Replacement

I have been following these threads on tire replacement for sometime. I have a Sunline T 1950. It has Mission ST 205 75 R15 tires. The DOT date is 4804 which means this coming Dec will be 6 years. The tires have less then 10000 miles on them and visually they look great. The last time out I weighed and the trailer was 4100 and I always keep 50 psi in the tires. The trailer is kept under a carport and the tires covered. I definetly don't want to experience a blow out so should I still be thinking about replacing the tires before next year. Thanks for you opinions.

Mokid.....

It is, of course, a judgement call. If you've been following the threads, you already know the issues and facts....and the 5-year replacement recommendations.

At this point in my life, I tend to avoid unnecessary risks. For myself, I would consider continuing to tow on those tires as having the same level of risk as my taking up cliff-climbing without safety lines at my current age (69).

I was going over the coach, getting ready to leave this Thursday, and wouldn't you know I found a bubble in the sidewall of one of the Mission tires. Biggest problem is, none of the local tire dealers know if they can have new tires before we leave. I guess if all else fails, I'll swap the one with the bubble with the spare, and hope the other tires hold up until we return.

Bummer for sure. And I know you subscribe to the max side wall cold pressure for towing. And on the T264SR with a 8,600 # GVWR those tires should have lot of extra margin as I have the same size on mine and it is 10,000 GVWR. And still all 4 tires can hold the entire GVWR including tongue weight. Unless you are grossly overloaded you should not ever come close to the max weight limit of that tire at 65 psi

Some how I sense 4 to 5 new tires in your future.

Good luck

John

Hey Mike,

Yeah that really sucks...sorry to hear, but glad you caught it before you hit the road!

Dont know what brand your considering, but, when I just purchased my Goodyears I went to a Gemini Goodyear store and they had to order them in. They arrived within a couple of days. The only negitive is they wont pull the rims off your TT and remount. I pulled all of them off myself and remounted with the new rubber.

Good Luck!

As a corollary to this - I don't carry a spare and have no intention of changing a tire myself. I was an auto mechanic and changed many tires over the years, but those days have passed. My plan is to call for help. I'm not risking injury to a well-now but once endanger-of-surgery back to keep an itinerary or save a buck.

It hasn't happened yet so here's the question. What are y'all's experiences with getting "roadside assistance"?

WOW! I can't believe how hard it was to get Goodyear Marathons that were made in the USA with such short notice. Everyone kept telling me 3-4 days. But I needed them done today so we can leave in the morning. Found a company that specializes in road service for OTR trucks, and they had trailer tires in stock. Made in the USA and made in the last 3 months. Had to drive an hour to pick them up. Then the task of getting the wheels off and taking them to a tire shop to have the new ones put on. Made for a long and aggravating day. Work wasn't to happy that I had to take off today, since the job had to be finished today, but camping takes priority.

Mike, did you end up getting a complete set?

Leaving in the morning and needing new tires.... sounds like us last year ready to head to Buttonwood. This little gem made the decsion to buy 5 new ones. Wife calls and says, we have a problem...... I wish it would of been the TT. These 18" E tires on the Ford can kill a grand real quick..

The good news in both my case and yours, you had the last moment at home to deal with it. Not out on the road at the mercy of where ever you ended up in the middle of no where.

Have a good trip

John
