I have the Equal-i-zer 1000 lb. model.
I had to scrounge this hitch up myself as my dealer claimed he couldn't get it and I didn't need it. His choice was to drill 8 holes in each A-frame leg for a chain bracket and friction anti-sway. I did like the design and clean appearance of the Equal-i-zer, but the main reason I picked it was... no holes.
I definitely agree that the current design of our wd hitches contributed to this problem. The brackets are levered off to the side of the A-frame and that's exactly what gives the bars the leverage to twist the A-frame and bend the header. If the bars had been attached directly under the A-frame this leverage wouldn't exist and the frame wouldn't twist. Of course it might have bent in the middle instead because it still isn't strong enough
