Stupid Fridge question

OK, this is probably obvious, but our fridge doesn't seem to get very cold no matter what system we're using. Gas is the coolest. The temp control on the front is a dial that spins clockwise from 12:00 to 9:00. (or counterclock if you start at 9:00) Is it set as cold as it will get when the dial is spun as far clockwise as it will go (9:00)? or the other way (12:00)?
I've been keeping it at 9:00 and it's not that cold.

Hi Pam,

Have you tried setting it at 12:00 for a day to see if it makes a difference? (I know it's a stupid question ).

I’m not familiar with the refrigerators used in the Que.

Can you give me the make and model number and I will see if I can find some info on it.

Thanks
Hutch

Guess I'll try the 12:00 suggestion. The instruction manual only says that we should set it on meduim for ambient temps between 15-25C. Of course that is no help since medium is half way between 12:00 and 9:00. And the little diagram with the max and min on it has max at the top of a verticle line and min at the bottom. Which is no help because it's a CIRCLULAR dial !!! Jeez, who wrote these instructions? It's a Dometic RM 7401 L.

I keep mine set on the coldest (all the way to the right) all the time. It also helps if the food is 'pre chilled' before you put it in. My fridge never gets as cold as the one at home (or in our Aliner for that mtter), but it is cold enough to keep the spoil out!

Our Norcold model has a digital temperature setting that goes from 1 to 10 with 10 being the coldest. We normally keep it on 5 and it does a good job of keeping things cool.

But with this heat we've been having this summer, we've had it on 7 for the past few months to keep the food at the same temp that 5 kept it at during the cooler months.

One time I filled it with warm beer and was really wanting a cold one, so I turned it up to 10 and then forgot about it. A few hours later I remembered about them and they were slushy

I know it doesnt help with your question, but with the really hot temps we've been having, it might just be having trouble keeping up

Pam,

I found a few different manuals on your refrigerator. Unfortunately none of them provided detailed information on the max & min temperature settings.
Is this what your refrigerator’s temperature control knob looks like?

If it is, I would guess, based on the dashed lines, that 9:00 would be the coldest setting and 12:00 would be the warmer setting.

Here's what I would suggest as an inital test:
Put a thermometer in your refrigerator.
Run the refergierator on electric.
Set it the knob at 12:00 and leave it for a day (at least overnight),
Record the temp,
Then set the knob at 9:00 leave it for another day
and record the temp.
Then run the refergierator on gas.
And repeat the test.

This way you'll see what the difference is between (which one is) the max and min settings and also what the difference is between running off gas or electric.

Also note that the outside air temperature has an impact on how cool/cold the refrigerator will get. That's why it may be best to record the temperatures in the morning at approximately the same time.

Sorry for not being more helpful.
Hutch

Fridge set at 5:00 on the dial and temp at 6:30 pm - 40 degrees. Turned it to 9:00 on the dial. Fridge temp at 8:30 is 28 degrees. So, thanks to the thermometer we have confirmed that 9:00 is indeed the coldest setting. I think that we've been having issues with the fridge because of the warms outside temps. We aren't really a/c people, so the fridge is really fighting to stay cold. We'll have to be more aware of that.

Well at least you’ve solved the question on which way is max & min.

We just have a plastic slide on one of the fins in the fridge and I still don’t know (or keep forgetting ) which way to move it (up or down) to get the fridge colder.
