Screw type Stabilizer jacks

We bought a 2004 Sunline 25 foot camper. Our whether has been good so far this year. I have been working on the camper for the up coming season. I dropped the front and rear jacks, disassembled them had all the parts sandblasted. And painted. Now for the lube, Should I use a good marine type lube on the screw or would a dry graphite lube be a better choice.

You almost have to be careful what kind of lube you use. If you get the screw slick enough, the stabilizer will back itself off. JohnB made some interesting little gadgets, to keep the screws from backing off...

Here is the thread, where he posted about them...

Hi Hornady,

Gray is right that too much lube can create a back off problem. But I have only had this issue on my bigger camper. Same stabilizer as on my smaller camper I had but the big one will unscrew the Bal jack with no problem. If I left them hard as can be to crack, then they would of held. But that was way to hard to crank.

Dry lube or grease lube. The dry lube does not have dirt stick so much which can be a positive thing.

I myself use the grease. Never had dirt issues but I do clean them off every year or so and relube. When the jack is totally up, the screw is pretty much covered which may be why I have not had any issues.

Both methods work. And like I said I never had issues on my T2499 with back off but do on the T310 big time. My gadget solved my issue and the jacks works real easy now.

Hope this helps

John

I'm a big fan of spray graphite. It lubricates well and is easy to apply and re-apply as needed. It attracts no grit. Since it sprays as a liquid, applications effectively "wash" the screw, then dry, leaving the micropowder behind.

Thanks I was thinking the Dry lube would be a better choice. I may spray it up before I bolt it back up and just keep a can in the camper to use as needed.
