Roof Repair Progress

Our Sunline went into the shop on Monday to get the roof replaced after the tree damage. http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...orm-14900.html. They got everything stripped off and I was able to stop by and get a picture.

As some others have found, Sunline did not use the best underlayment on their roofs in the later years. It is essentially a one-piece heavy cardboard panel. I talked with the service manager at the dealer that is fixing it, Economy RV in Mechanicsville, MD. He seems very knowledgeable and he decided the best thing to do was leave the original panel in place and lay 1/4" luan plywood over the entire roof. In my mind, that will make the roof way better than the original. With about a 1/2" thickness between the 2 panels, he thought the roof will be walkable if I am easy with my steps.

They should have the EDPM material glued down tomorrow and they'll let it dry over the weekend before they start trimming the edges next week. I'm planning to stop by and taking another look tomorrow to see how it's going. I'll try to get more pics...

Looking at the estimate from the dealer, it breaks down like this:

45 hours labor to remove & replace roof @ $104.50 hr = $4702.50
Roofing kit is $1189.98
Install kit is $399.87
2 hours to reseal work area @ $104.50 hr = $209.00

So, the approximate total for just the roof will be around $6500. There was some other damage that they are fixing as well and the total estimate is $8100. Thankfully, my insurance is covering all of it except my $100 deductible.

I'm sure I could have found someone to do it cheaper (EMD_Driver and Capt Skup know a guy in West Virginia that does a great job) but I just went with my local dealer since it was easier with the insurance co. involved, they have a good reputation and are giving me a 1 yr warranty on their labor.

Yeah, RV shop rates will really get you, so luckily you aren't having to pay that whole bill! Interesting when you put it like that- 45 hours of labor- essentially it'll take one guy an entire week's work to do the roof job.

In that estimate, do they include replacing any of the roof vents/components or replacing the A/C mounting seal? Granted the trailer isn't that old, but they're cheap enough that this would be a good time do them. Vent covers and the stink pipe vents for sure would be good since they do get sun beat.

I think they are going to reuse most of the roof components. They had them on the shop floor and they looked pretty good. I keep the trailer covered at least 60% of the year. But, good point on the A/C seal... I would think they would put in a new one but I'll have to ask about that.

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to get any more pics of the process. I wasn't able to get up there on Friday before they closed and I have to work every day next week. It will probably be ready to pickup by late next week.

Been meaning to post about the progress of our roof repair. We picked up the trailer 2 weeks ago and I think they did a great job.

It's great to have our trailer back after 6 weeks in the repair shop. We went camping over the holiday weekend for only our second trip this season.

Looks very clean and well done.

May have put you out of camping for awhile, but know you have a much better roof structure IMO. Double substrate.

we also have a 2002 2475 The shop we are taking it to is putting all new plywood, new insulation, and rubber for $3,200.00 . cant wait the rest of the trailor is in excellent condition . My name is John Manna from Delaware
