Roof Maintenance Question
Hi All,
Purchased the roof maintenance stuff from CW. In reading the directions on the primer/cleaner bottle it talks about masking off the trailer to prevent the liquid from getting on the anything but the membrane. Is this over kill, or should I do as the instructions say? First time doing this maintenance project and want to make sure to do it correctly. I know our forum has all the answers, so here is another question. Appreciate any insight from one or many.
Thanks,
Joe

Hmm, I'm not sure. I've never used a store bought roof cleaner, so I can't speak from experience.

I'd follow directions. They must be there for a reason. Maybe masking tape is cheaper than a new paint job if you make a mistake.

My original thought was to follow the directions too. They even put an additional warning label on the cap. DW pickup a couple of rolls of plastic at Menard's yesterday, it was on sale. Now I need to get the weather to cooperate. Appreciate the responses.

I did do a rubber roof on a motorhome and when close to the edges there was already rubber sealant at those joints. I would load the brush with less primer/sealer and do an extra layer there. At the A/C and other openings I used a brush to paint around them and then I used a paint roller on the open areas. It did help to keep runs to a minimum.
Getting the weather to cooperate? Good luck!

Hi Joe,
What exact product did you buy? Some of these cleaners can eat paint and disolve plastic.

Hey John,
It's the Dicor two step process. Will be taping the whole unit off with plastic all the way around. Want to do a good job so will follow directions completely. Appreciate the reply.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,
OK you are talking about doing a total roof recoating.... yes, agree mask off the sides. A glob of that stuff slinging down on the sides may be a bit of an issue to get off. The time spent taping off may be short in comparsion to dealing with the problems of not taping off....
A roof recoat is a bit more then the average roof maintenance.
Let us know how this comes out. And any pics of the process would be great. You may very well be the 1st one to post about doing a rubber roof recoating here on SOC.
Good luck
John
