roof cleaning

Okay--maybe I shouldn't have but what?????My rubber roof was sooo very dirty--don't know if the former owners ever washed it-so up went the bucket of suds and I added Clorox...looks really really great! Am I in for trouble from the bleach? I actually am having palpitations over this! Help! Janalee

Hi Janalee

I do not know the long term bleach affects. But I do know I had some diluted bleach water splash up on the roof when I was washing the awing. And yes those spots are white again. After a year now of the spots still clean I see no ill effects. I also use 303 UV protectant on the roof as well. Don't know if that helps with what ever the bleach did to it but like I stated, I have not seen any bad things start in those areas.

I'm making the assumption you rinsed well after the suds and bleach bath. While mine is OK from the awning splash, I do not know if I would make a steady diet of bleaching the roof. Maybe a call to roof EPDM manufacture may help clear this up. If you have some 303 I know it will not hurt the situation and may help some.

Good luck and hope this helps.

John
