Replacing propane regulator on 1982 15.5SB

Hello all, does anyone know if the regulator drops the pressure down to 11 inches WC, or if it only brings it down to 10PSI? I can't find a second stage regulator on the line. Markings show it to be a 605H. It also says 90-T at the exit port. The fitting on the far end of the hose connects directly to the black pipe running under the camper. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I myself do not know on your 82 camper, but it has been a long time standing rule that appliances inside a living space be on low pressure (11" WC). I would really think this covers 1982, but I do not know the actual date it become law.

On the newer campers, the 2 stage regulator is an all in one unit that is part of an automatic switch over tank regulator for a 2 tank setup. There is not 2 separate regulators screwed together to create the 11" WC.

A prior owner may have goofed and put a standard hi pressure BBQ regulator on the camper main line.

Your concerns are valid. Pictures here can help so we can see what you are up against. Post a few pic's on what your main tank regulator looks like and a brand name to go with those part numbers.

Check the stove top inside the camper. Lift up the stove top and look at the gas label rating of the stove. The stove tops also have a 2nd regulator in them if you have an oven which drops the 11" WC down to 10" WC to be more stable. If your stove is made to run on 11"WC supply, the rest of the camper is too.

In case your suspicions are right and someone has the wrong regulator on the main supply, I would not use the LP on the camper until you sort this out.

Hope this helps

John

Hello John,

Thanks for the reply. I pulled the regulator today and took it to the RV shop. They confirmed it to be a low pressure type. The new regulator with a 90 degree connection and 72" line should be in by tomorrow. At the moment the only propane appliance is the stove, so I'll keep the single tank setup for a while. Once I install the water heater, furnace, and 3-way fridge, I will switch to the newer regulator with the splitter. The only concern would be adding so much weight to the tongue of a tiny 15.5 SB.

Thanks again,
Bill
