removing J steel couch for access
Has anyone ever removed their J steel couch? I need access to the water tank below and it would be easiest to do so by removing the couch.
Thanks!

Four screws, two on each side on the base, hold our couch in place. Pull the four screws and the whole thing comes out.
I removed the screws one at a time, and marked their location with a dot from a marker as there is carpet over the framing. Made it much easier to locate the same holes when putting it back together.

Here is a link to my webshots album containing pictures of sofa removal, WH element replacement, and re-installing the sofa (I raised it 2 inches and installed different mounting system)

If your couch looks like this, you can unbolt the bottom cushion first so it does not try to take your head off so easy un doing it….and is less weight to wrestle with…., then take the screws of the frame holding it to the TT wood.
This is a Steel Flex Jacknife couch, same as Kitty’s
Hope this helps.
John

John or Kitty
After removing the bottom cusion, as well as frame is there a lid/top part that you just pick up off. Or do you have to cut out the top of the enclosure that houses the furnace etc. My 2975 model has just the furnace under the flex steel couch, I like to get to the duct work comming off the furnace. From the pics looks like it's right there once the couch and top piece are remaoved. Thanks Sunline1

Sunline1,
Once you have removed the cushion or entire sofa, that board you see in JohnBs' picture is just a piece of paneling, might have to remove a couple screws but it will lift right off, no problem at all.
I didn't realize that the bottom cushion could be removed seperately, so I struggled, fought, cussed and removed my sofa in one piece by myself. Then JohnB told me how to remove just the bottom cushion. OH well, I guess I just did it the "BLONDE" way !
Since I had the entire sofa out, I raised the wooden frame 2 inches, attached hasps and snaps, so I can now just undo 4 snaps and remove my sofa.

Thanks for the info, now I got it. I looked at your pics and like the arrangement you came up with hasps and snaps. Thanks again. Happy Camping !! Sunline1

Thanks everyone! I got it out all in one piece before I saw that you can remove the seat first. I may take the seat off to put it back. The screws at the back were very hard to reach!
I have a 2753 and my water tank is under the couch. I had to replace the water fill tube as it was dripping each time we filled the tank.
Thanks again!
