Quick question re: sunny taillights

I have an 87 Satellite. Are the tailight mounts recessed? right now the TT has the boxy bulb setups (with the non-sealed pop-off red lends and 3 individual bulbs in cheap sockets that rust....) and they are bad.

I thought I glimpsed a recess behind them when repairing a bad marker bulb this weekend, I want to get LEDs but need to know whether I can get recessed or must be surface mount....anyone have an 80's TT they can peek at?

thanks...

On my 1983 T1550 there is no recess. I know because when I got it, there were two holes in the siding with wires sticking out, where the lights used to be, and some magnetic stick on lights on the back bumper. I replaced them with cheapo LED's from HF and rewired them back thru the holes.

I added a pair of these LED fixtures to my Sunline, just a few inches above the standard Bargman lights. They are S/T/T so they give plenty of extra light to the rear as both tail lights and stop/turn signals. They're surface mount and should be large enough to cover the existing wiring holes. I also rewired my boat trailer with these lights and they have survived complete immersion when launching quite well.
