Prepasted Wallpaer and Luan Panelling?

Okay, so I'm getting down to the nitty gritty and finally putting the panelling in on the walls I had to restructure inside the camper.

I'm using luan panelling because it's cheap and very light and I'm planning to wallpaper over the panelling with some prepasted wallpaper.

From what I've read online I believe I have to first spackle in all the seams and cracks with joint compound, sand it smooth (as I can get it) and then add a coat of primer paint over the wood and let it all dry etc., before adding the wallpaper.

If anyone has experience doing this and can save me some trouble and heartaches before I get at the wallpaper, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks for any advice or tips you might have!

Install panaling good side in. Your papering over it anyways. Only butt seam to worry about. I went that route of spacking cracks , pain. tape the butt seams or you will have cracks.

Unfortunately, I wasn't really paying attention to which side was out or in as I cut the pieces and fit them in there! LOL! Typical!

I have some drywall tape I'll use on all the seams before I put the paper up there. I have a lot of paint in the garage too, I thought maybe I'll primer coat the whole thing to seal it all up and give me something for the paper to stick to.

Thanks for the heads up!

Your method sounds pretty good for installing the paper. The factory luan panels were pre-papered before they were installed. Seams between the panels were covered with first a small piece of scrap luan about 1" wide (and the corners rounded off) and wrapped with wallpaper, with the seam for that paper on the back. Then later on, they used just an adhesive backed piece of matching paper that they stuck over the seam, which did start to release over time.

Dave, The joints in campers get a lot of stress bouncing down the road. I hope your fastening the paneling good enuff that it will not come loose. This joint movement is why many seams have cover strips or round bead welt. If not all the time your spending sealing seams and making it all so pretty will soon have cracks.
