Pigtails 12" vs 15" ????

Replacing the pigtails, on my propane tanks. Factory supplyed 12", rv dealer only has 15". I assume no problem, but thought I'd ask the forum.

I'm not a plummer nor a gas man.

Catalog says: "PigTail Gas hose 15 inch Type 1 Acme nut clamshell". Is this what I want ??

Any thoughts/comments on using the 15" as opposed to the 12" pigtails ??

Thanks

As long as you have the room for the extra hose it will be fine.

In some cases, a couple extra inches of hose could make for a less tight bend radius, which IMO is a good thing.

Frank

thanks for your reply.

Do you know if the "Type1 Acme Nut Clanshell" is the correct one for my sunline ??

There is something else listed on the catalog website "Thermoplastic" line or something like that. I'm a little confused on what to order ??

This is all Greek to me.

Thanks

I bought a pair of 12" pigtails just a couple of years ago to replace the originals. The replacements are already cracked in places because they make a very tight radius to get to the tank connectors.

Not only would I go with the longer pigtails, I am also looking for the right brass fittings to remove at least 90 degrees of the flex so that the tubing only arcs in one direction from the regulator to the tank.

I tried a Google search and that seems to be what you want. This link has a picture.

Their text reads: "Type 1 Acme nut x 1/4" inverted male flare. Clamshell package"

RVUpgradeStore - Propane Pigtail Connectors, 12"

As Steve mentioned the 15" may give a better radius with less cracking if you have the room as Frank mentioned.

I second this. The bend on mine is so tight it puts great strain on the nut itself from sealing right and the hose bend radius I'm sure is exceeded.

I see no harm in the longer hoses and I will be in the not too distant future upgrading mine as they have the short bend disease.

You do want to make sure the tank nut is "green" The color matches up with how many BTU's of gas can flow thru it. Like your BBQ grill has a lack nut and it is sized to not flow as much gas. The green nut allows enough to run the furnace and other appliances in the camper. And that the hose is LP gas rated to 300psi. Most all are that are made up with the green nut on the end and if you look as the hose it is molded in the pressure rating.

The type 1 I do believe is the newer ACME style right hand threaded plastic nut verses the older style where you used a wrench and was left handed and all brass. The Marshall Brass web site was not cooperating but I did find this to comfrim my memory http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/lp-gas/lpg-hoses.htm
