Ayup, new shield, looks like a new sensor, can't really tell the difference other than that....They didn't even have to move the coach to fix it- sweet. That's one good thing about parking it in their storage lot...fixes are non-labor involved on my part (on things I don't want to/ cannot perform).

Is this recall still active? I went on Dometic's website, but did not see any information on the recall.

I purchased a 2001 T-2980 a few months ago, and just now looked, and the recall was never done on the camper.

The model/serial number does show that the unit is covered under the recall.

Thanks
Phil

Dometic Recall

Yes it is still active. I bought a 2005 T-1950 on Jan 21 2009 and when I saw this thread I checked the Serial Number and called Dometic. They verified it and gave me the choice of where I wanted to have it fixed. I took it to a RV dealer on Feb 3 and had the recall work done. No Charge.

Is it SOP to call Dometic first, or is it fine just to contact an RV dealer, and set up an appointment to have the recall done?

I have to get the camper inspected, so I might as well get both done at the same time.

I am new to travel trailers, so help is appreciated. My last camper was a basic pop-up, so I didn't have all these tasks.

Thanks
Phil

Phil,
Your RV dealer should be able to help you. I did the same thing last year when I got the PA inspection done on my trailer.
This is a very knowledgeable and helpful group. Enjoy your new trailer

Dometic has a kit assembled that they sell to dealers. They do not work directly with customers as the kit needs to be installed by a professional for liability reasons. The dealers have to buy the kits from Dometic and then they get reimbursed from Dometic after all the correct paperwork is sent in.

So all you have to do is take it to the dealer. They will check your serial/model number to verify. Installation itself takes 30-45 minutes, maybe less at this time of year when there's no wait.

I would hope that PA and the other states with inspections have added having the recall taken care of to the list of things to qualify. IMO, it really isn't a safety inspection if it has a refer that can blow up/catch fire.

Jon

Jon,
I doubt that is the case. I had to convince the shop doing the work that my refer even qualified for the recall--Thanks to you guys and this topic!!

I believe in PA it is a trailer inspection only. Checking lights and, brakes, but not much else. A few years back I took our 1950-T to a guy who inspected trailers. He did not sell them, just was an inspection station. It took me longer to back into his driveway than it took him to inspect my trailer. He did a walk around, asked me how long I had the trailer and how far I had towed it. Then he said the brakes last pretty good--$15 please.
Needless to say this guy did not make our Christmas card list Nor did the RV dealer who recommended him (because he did not do inspections).

Folks.......

In PA, I believe the the inspection is limited to:
- all lights function (as do brake & turn signals)
- tires meet minimum standards (tread depth, etc.)
- brakes function
- break-away switch triggers brakes

The standards are set in the Motor Vehicle Code (which has not been written by RV tech persons!)...... They are intended only to deal with road safety items....not inhabitant safety.

Dredging up this old thread as I found ours is also a recall. The good news is that I found an RV dealer 30 miles away who is open ! And has the repair kits in stock. So, after the winter and salty roads, we'll head over to have it fixed. Here is the current link.

Any idea how to tell if the fridge has already been taken care of in the recall?

Do they replace the fridge or modify it somehow?

They add a thermal cut off switch and a thermal fuse which will shut down the fridge if it starts to overheat. And they add sheet metal shields around the burner tube area.

See post 16 on page 2 here http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...es-7596-2.html

Scroll down 1 reply and you will see SunlineFans recall before and after having been done.

If you cannot figure it out, post a pic of the back side of the fridge inside the outside vents cover and we can tell if it has the recall done to it.

Hope this helps and good luck

John
