Yes, it should be that easy. It should be a "plug and play" operation. (pun intended )

On a 2001 GM Suburban/Yukon, yes there is a plug in port for the brake controller on your left side under the dash by the parking brake pedal.

GM sells a harness that will allow you to "splice" in a brake controller. Some makes/models of brake controllers have a mating plug to fit the GM socket.

And yes, under the hood in the fuse panel, by the master brake cylinder there has to be a large fuse added to power the brake controller. Some times it is already there, other times you have to add it. The truck manual use to show the location if I recall right, may even be in the cover of the fuse panel.

For your brake controller, you ideally get a "proportional" controller verses a "timed based" controller. While both do work, the "proportional" controller is so much smoother and self compensates for speed and trailer weight. The cost between the two is not that much pending the brand you get.

Hope this helps

John

If your brake controller cable didn't come with the tow package and buried in your glove box, you may want to purchase from etrailer or the like.

I made the mistake of buying my cable from the dealer and paid at least twice as much as I could have gotten it from etrailer.

The kick was I ordered my brake controller from etrailer thus it was a simple matter of just adding the cable for my truck to the cart. I had a wait for my truck dealer to order the cable. No advantage there.
