Need help finding a roof vent 18"

Hello i am the new owner of a 1982 sunline 1550 travel trailer. I am slowly getting her back in good shape but cannot find a vent cover. The old cover is gone, it was so brittle it broke off in the tow home. Is there anything i can do even if its something creative to fix the giant hole i now have in my roof. I measured the outside opening and it is 18" diag. and the only vent covers i found were 14".
Thanks

Welcome Cory,

I can't say I've heard of something that large before. It might not be original.

Yes, finding a replacement will be difficult. Usually these days the size is pretty much the same, just the hinge differs.

One thing comes to mind though. I thought they were larger than this, but check out truck camper roof escape hatches. They are the type of things they usually put over the cabover of a truck camper so that someone could get out if they had to. They were larger than a normal roof vent, but I don't recall how large. Perhaps that is...the RV dealers won't have them, but you'd have to either special order it or find it online.

Jon

Um, how about measuring the dimensions of the hole instead of the diagonal?

The rough opening for a standard roof vent is 14"w x 14"d. My '76 Prowler had that and every TT I have ever seen has the same dimensions.

There are only two or three roof vents out there and have been for years and years.

If the opening actually is larger than 14"x14" by a few inches, it would be possible (and not too difficult) to make up a plate of some kind with a 14"x14" opening so that you could use a standard roof vent.
