My first major repair project.

More involved than expected. PO really got me with this unit Might have to take out HW heater for better access to replace flooring, which was literally dust. When you look up from underneath, all you can see is the bottom of the linoleum. Will have to drop membrane to clean out mess and repair rafters. Then roll back linoleum to replace floor.

So I decided to take out HW heater. Glad I did. No flooring under there either. Pic tomorrow. Now I have a nice big open ( sort of) area to work in. Lot of caulking to do when I put everything back in.

Hi Jim,

I sent you a PM. We can help but first have to get your pics to post.

I followed you pic back to your Photo Bucket site. I cannot see any pics there. To post a pic here into the forum from Photo Bucket, find the pic you want to post, display it in Photo Bucket like normal and up in right corner of the screen is under, Share this Photo, there is an "IMG" command string. Click it and it will copy to your PC scrape buffer.

Then come here and "paste" that command string and the pic will view. The pics work best at 640 x 480 and do not have to be a lot more then 100K. this will view fine.

Also, you have to declare that folder to be "Public Viewing" of else we need a pass word to get in to see it. You do this in your PhotoBucket set up screen.

Good luck and hope his helps

John

Is it just me, or is working with butyl putty tape a big PIA? Also, what is best to seal the corner piece in the rear. It looks like it is packed with something.

Hi Jim,

Your pics are still not coming through.

You said butyl and then putty tape, like "butyl putty tape" butyl is one form of sealing tape and putty tape is another. Not the same thing. But that aside, what is the problem with either? Getting off the old stuff or working with new? To get the old off, use a plastic scraper so you do not scratch the white trim (if your concerned about that) and once scraped, then use mineral spirits on a rag and wipe and rub. It will take off the fine stuff that scraping did not get.

Before you install new, you have to clean off the mineral spirits which can leave a oily film. Can use a car paint cleaner or other high flash off low residue cleaner that will not lift off the paint. Do not use Acetone on the siding, it will take all the white off back to shinny silver.

For the inside corners where the siding folds over, butyl is best. Or do you mean the outer trim piece? Again butyl there is best too but dirt can stick to the exposed edge. A little Dicor non leveling caulk on that exposed edge can stop the dirt.

If you click the photo logo and go to photobucket, the first thing that comes up is picture deleted. Under that is more albums from this user. Click on that and pics should show up. And I was talking about the outside corner piece. Almost finished. Floor is in. HW heater reinstalled. Siding in place. Compartment door back on. Only thing left is rear trim piece and fender flare.
