More rot, more mold..we have a mushroom!

I took the trash compartment off last week and removed the drawer from the cupboard area to install a radio.

When I got inside that area, I noticed the musky smell that I had in the bathroom and the walls in the rear end when I first started working on this thing.

Take a wild guess at what I found?

Yep, you got it...more rot, more mold!

They sure weren't thinking when they sealed the lenoleum over particle board when they built these things. They also left no way to allow air circulation if you got a leak. The only way to get it to dry out is to rip the lenoleum out of it. I did this, and from what I can tell, a LARGE portion of the floor is rotted out in the rear end of the entire camper. Of course I knew there were issues with the floor being soft in the bathroom area, but I never imagined how much.

I could personally care less about the sad state of the floor, but what I can't risk is my five year old daughter or my wife getting in there and catching some kind of lung or other disease from the mold.

It's not looking good!

I know how you feel, it's a real disappointment to do all kinds of work to only find more rot. Rot/water damage is a tough thing...it usually seems to be worse than it appears.

I keep finding more too. By the time you and I are done, we're going to have brand new campers.

yes, I have recently purchased a small sunline 10 footer thinking it's not to bad I can fix it. But it appears it's going to take a new floor or at least the back half. Can you replace the floor in thes things without removing the outside skin?? I'm not a cabniet maker but I can do a fair amount my problem is camper construction knowldeg.

YES and many have. See this post and scroll down to:

1. Repairing water damage on your Sunline.

There are many links to floor remove and repair from the inside of the camper.

Hope this helps and good luck. If you make a picture post on how you fixed yours I'll add it to the list.

John
