Microwave Problem
Getting ready for our first trip and the Microwave seems to have failed. It worked fine when we tested it out the day we bought the trailer, but now it is stuck in a defrost mode and I cannot cancel it. I tried unpluging it to reset it. I don't think this is the original Microwave since I cannot find a manual for it. Its a Samsung MR5492 W. I was hoping someone could clue me in on a possible reset procedure.

Microwave Problem
Found out online that the Samsung microwave was recalled several times back in 2004 and 05. The symptoms I'm experiencing are exactly what is in the recall. After this many years I guess I better just buy a new microwave. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Mike & Lynne,
Just found a picture confirming the original microwave. Most that I had appeared to show the same microwave, but the pictures were to small to tell what kind it was.
The original microwave was a Dometic RV Microwave.
I suspect the original unit died and the owners just replaced it with what they could get at the store instead of the RV version. I'm not all that sure of the difference between them, they seem to look the same. Dometic just makes the trim ring that goes around it too, to make it look built in. In fact, Sunline did use Dometic microwaves back in the '80's, and then they moved to a household brand (like Goldstar or something) during the '90's, and then sometime around 1999 (when they went to the white appliances), they returned to Dometic's.
Here's the picture. It happens to be in an '01 A/L L-19B:

RV type microwaves (Dometic) are supposed to be built better to take the pounding of the road. We've been happy with our OEM model which is now almost 5 years old and has seen about 25,000 miles.
However, for the price of one of these, you could buy several cheapos at Walmart or elsewhere and I'd be tempted to go that route myself.
There should be some other members with replacement experiences.

Microwave Problem
I bit the bullet this morning and removed the Samsung. I checked all the dimensions and compared them to the original documentation for the Dometic Microwave. With the photo you sent me confirming Dometic as the original Microwave, I decided to buy a replacement Dometic from camping world since it has been upgraded and time tested. Suppose to be here on Friday.
Thanks for the replies and I'll let you know the outcome so that if someone needs to change out a microwave, they can refer to this posting.

That is a good choice.
I just found a '03 2499 a couple minutes ago, and noticed they put a GREAT pic of the microwave in there. Since we know what your original looked like, now I know the '03's were the same.

Jon, Thanks for the great photos and replying to my questions. This made it easier for me to make a decision.

Microwave Problem
Installed new Dometic Microwave. Lost a week because the adaptor kit that was on the Sanyo wouldn't work on the Dometic. I ordered a new adaptor kit from Camping World and it was here in 3 days. It is very easy to remove and replace the microwave, but if you are ordering a new one you might want to commit to ordering the trim package at the same time.
