MaxxAir vent covers
We want to replace the vent covers, Camping World has them on sale. But why does it say not recommended for fan vents? Both of our existing ones are the same. What would you use instead of this:
MaxxAir Roof Vent Covers - Product - Camping World
Thanks!

I have one of those on my bathroom vent and yes, that vent has the little "whizzer" fan. I think the concern is that you can not crank the vent fully open and if you had a big fan in the vent there would be a lot of back pressure. The motor on a big fan could overheat from the backpressure. It isn't an issue with the standard little 6" fan. I like being able to leave the vent open for air circulation all the time. A good investment.
I should add, this doesn't replace the crank up vent cover, it goes over it.

If you have a high capacity vent fan (other than wizzers) the fan manual says that you need the larger vent covers with the bigger openings or the warranry is voided. They cost much more ($75-90). The small ($25-$35) vent covers are too restrictive for high capacity air movement. I used a $30 vent cover over a wizzer vent for many years.
I have a vent cover on all vents so I never worry about the rain, Never leave home without one. My vents are always open unless I'm heating or cooling. Winter, traveling, away from the camper, no worries.

Yes, I tripple what Gene and Paul have stated.
I also have one of the TurboMaxx fan's. Turbo Maxx's version of a large vent fan. The hood on it is a monster and it fits over the standard vent. We use it as a whole camper power vent. Crack the windows and let the fan exhasut out. It draws in the cool night air from the windows and blows out the hotter air.
This is our poor mans AC unit when boondocking.

do yourself a favor and invest in the 2nd generation Max Air Vents....they open to the side for cleaning.....whereas the first generation is solid and you need to remove the entire vent for cleaning........... MaxxAir II Vent Covers - Product - Camping World

Again, many thanks. We'll likely upgrade to the MaxAirII - perhaps even save over the winter for the fan John mentions. I am so glad we ask these questions before merrily purchasing items for the Sunline, then realizing we should have invested in something a bit better for the long run. You all are amazing!!

We have Maxxair vent covers on all our vents with a Vortex vent fan in our bathroom. It was an easy swap from the ineffective factory fan and it flows plenty of air even with the standard size vent cover. The Vortex fans are around $50 and ours has been working great for a couple years now.

If you are talking about a Fantastic Vent, Camping World just had the covers for them on sale. I bought one for $39.99 and free shipping. The cover is designed for the vent lid to open into it and it can flow a lot of air. I just installed it yesterday, but did not take any pics. Maybe I can get some this weekend, while we are camping...

Go back to camping worlds web site and bring up the maxxair vent covers. They make one especially made for the high power vent fan. It is called fanmate rain cover.
Just ordered that one and two of the maxxair II for our new rig. On internet sale with free shipping for good sam/camping world members.

Greg,
H'mm that looks interesting. Thanks for ther link. Thoughts of putting one in the living area maybe.
I agree, the whizzer fan in the bathroom is close to useless for venting. Making noise it is good at.

Check out the Fan-Tastic Endless Breeze fan at Camping World. It's a high capacity vent fan set horizontally as a portable box fan. Set anyplace you have a 12v plug. I bought one two weeks ago and it is very handy and works well. I set it by an open window few a few minutes. Boondockers take notice!
I do see though the price at $75 went up $15 in two weeks.

Real fans move a lot of air! I have a Fantastic fan and one of the neatest thing about it is the rain sensor I love it. Just a few drops of rain the fan turns off and the lid closes. My old MH had the little fans you are right they made a lot of noise did not move much air and sucked up a lot of power I replaced them with 5" 12 volt computer fans.

I agree, we have one with the rain sensor too.
I would comment though if I was starting from scratch, I would skip the rain sensor and install a high capacity cover instead. Ours is super sensitive to moisture and a few dew drops will shut it down. It is nice to be able to still move air, especially when it's damp and/or raining!!!
We have covers on the other two vents and with them open and the fantastic fan running it ventilates great. The only problem is a couple drops of water and the Fantastic Fan is useless until it dries out.

Neither of my vents have a fan, at all. I'm planning on getting the MaxxAir covers so I can be less anxious about forgetting to close the vents, but I'm worried they'll impede what little airflow I have since I don't have much airflow without fans to begin with.
Any opinions? I don't plan on installing a vent fan.

I think even without a fan you will get some air flow with an open vent and MaxxAir cover. You will get a LOT of peace of mind about the vents being open when those sudden rainstorms pop up.

Have to agree.....we have MaxxAir covers on all 3 vents, plenty of air flow and lots of peace of mind.....we learned our lesson when our grandson did not shut the vent (prior to the vent covers) and he came back to find his bed wet and cold....came home from vacation and ordered the covers......very happy with them!

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. When I'm preoccupied, I'm a major dingbat, so it is only a matter of time until I leave a vent open.
