Lighting pilot to get hot water T-2553

I have not used the hot water yet on my t-2553.
trying to get pilot lit so i can fire up the hot water, having problems getting pilot going. anyone any ideas??

There's 2 ways. On gas make sure you have gas to stove, then push button on right side of stove, pilot will auto light.

Second way is on electric. Under right side of mattress is a large hole, look and you will see a rocker switch on rear of tank. Flip to on and it's on electric. Check to be sure breaker is on in converter under refrigerator. By the way make sure water is in tank first.

What is the model year of the trailer and what is the model number of the water heater? There should be a label on the back of the heater somewhere with that info, or on the build sheet if you have it.

Newer water heaters don't have a manual pilot light, they have an auto-spark ignition when you turn it in propane mode on that gets it going. It has to have propane in the lines all the way to the heater to work plus it needs the trailer's 12vdc system to be active and energized. If the tank has recently been changed, you may have to cycle it a few times to get it going. An easy way to speed that along is to light up a burner on the stove which will help purge air out of the propane lines.

If you know the model number and manufacturer of the stove, the manual is on the manufacturer's website.

There are also troubleshooting guides in the files area for these appliances.

i opened up the propane like you suggested , I could here clicking, but the pilot did not lite. I remember the red light coming on before when i pushed the button, nothing now?
(this worked 2 years ago when i purchased the camper, auto light)

this is a 1997 T-2553

the water heater is an Atwood model #GC6AA9E
spec # 142077

There is no pilot, the clicking is the igniter. The light goes out after burner is lit or after a few cycles. You may have to blow out burner. Spiders love to to build nests in there.

Do I understand that you were trying to fire up the heater without the propane turned on? Really?

There are Atwood water heater manuals in the Files section under Sunline Heating and Cooling. They've been there since 2010.

As Jim says, it takes several cycles of the heater attempting to light itself to purge the air out of the propane lines from the tanks all the way to the water heater's burner. As I said before, you can help this by lighting up a stove burner. That gets some of the air out and gets the propane moving.

And it's always a good idea to clean out the burner tube completely.

no. i may not be an expert, but i do know to put the propane on.

i did turn on the burners, i did this procedure a couple of times.

cleaning out the tube, sounds like that could be my problem.
spiders oh ya , i have them too ! any special way to blow it out?

A neighbor thought his burners weren't werking. He had gas turned on at tank. Could hear gas flowing at stove. thought his burners must be stopped up, or something. I held my lighter flame at the burner and opened the burner. POOF! He had flame. turned out it was his igniter that didn't werk.

Maybe igniter isn't set in the flow of the gas. Hearing clicking means it werks but not necessarily in the flow of the gas.

I remove the upper heat shield to gain full access to both ends of the burner tube. It's basically just a U shaped tube with the flame at one end.

My tool of preference for cleaning here is the shop vac. I can put a narrow pipe on the hose and reach into the tube all the way with either suction or air blast.

RV shops have a long flexible thingie not unlike a feather duster that they use to clean out the combustion areas of propane appliances. It's long enough to reach up into the stack of a fridge or push through the burner tube of the water heater in one shot without taking the time to remove the heat shield.
