Leaky fresh water tank in my T-2475

I added fresh water to my tank this weekend, & I found it was leaking. The leak is coming from the fitting where the water line leads to the water pump. I can't tell if the leak is coming from the tank, the line or the fitting itself. Can anybody tell me how to remove the tank to test it for leaks? Is there a reliable way to seal the fitting or tank, if that's what is leaking? Is there a source for a replacement tank if it comes to that?
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Hi Bill

What year Sunline is yours? They changed the mounting methods over the years.

Npw to your leak. I'm making some assumptions I have a clue what your tank looks like. Which I really don't as I do not know the year. If it looks like mine those poly tanks some times have a hard time sealing to connections as they are so slippery and plyable.

If it is the pump suction fitting that screws into the tank, the fitting can be unscrewed and teflon tape put on the fitting and put back in.

Be careful not to cross thread it. I do not know if you have a plastic fitting or a brass fitting. Both can cross thread in those soft threads of the tank and then not seal well. If you take the fitting out and if threads are messed up, don't t reuse the fitting. The tnak may still be able to seal with a good fitting. Lowes and Home Depot or our hardware stores well have NPT to barbed hose fittings.

I redid my tank piping a little but here is 2004 setup.

And this setup I can unbolt one of the angle irons that holds the tank and slide the entire tank out if I needed to. It came that way from Sunline.

Hope this helps.

John

My '99 has the fresh water tank inside the TT under the sofabed instead of underneath nestled between the frame rails like John's. It sits on the floor of the trailer and is held in place with just a couple of metal straps. Remove the couch, pull the straps, disconnect the drain, fill, vent, and pump lines and the tank comes out.

Bill, we need to know which yours is before anyone can offer help that will be useful to you. It would also be valuable to know the model year of your unit.

Mine is a 1995 with the tank located under the oven and refridgerator. The access panel is under the fridg, and there is not room enough to pull the tank out of the access.

Thanks for your help.

I hope you have already drained the tank to prevent any more leakage. Water can quickly migrate to places where it will start the rotting process on cabinets and sub-floor. Dry up whatever water has already leaked out, and do whatever you can to insure that any wood near the leak is completely dried out.

You can improve your access to the tank by removing the stove.
(Click here for general instructions for removing the stove.)
Also, remove any drawers and doors in that cabinet group.

My tank holds 25 gallons and measures 12" tall, 12" deep, and 41.5" long. Your tank is supposed to be 24 gallons and should be roughly the same dimensions. If all the fittings are disconnected, you should be able to lift that tank right out through the stove opening.

I am guessing that the pump is in the same compartment with the tank. If so, disconnect the tank/pump line at the pump so you will be able to locate the leak when you've removed the tank.

As John said, if it is just leaking at the fitting, removing the fitting and re-installing it with fresh teflon tape should work.

It is also possible that the clamp on the hose just needs tightening. That clamp may be a crimp-on instead of a worm clamp. You can't tighten the crimp-on, but you can remove it and replace it with a standard worm clamp (readily available at your local hardware store or home improvement center.)

If the unit wasn't properly winterized sometime in the past, the hose itself may have split. That is also easily replaced.

I also developed a leak on my fresh water tank in a 2003 model 2475. My leak was on the water fill line to tank connection. Since that particular hose is corrugated they use a silicone sealer between the hose and fitting to help prevent leaks. I retighten the clamp but it still leak. So I had to remove the old silicone and reapply new silicone to stop the leak. On my tank the connection you are talking about looks like they used silicon instead of Teflon tape to seal the connection. I would do like Steve said and replace the hose and clamp using Teflon tape.

I had an issue with the corrugated hose leaking a bit as well. Double-clamping the connection took care of the leak.
