How much snow is too much for the roof ?

Got at least 10 inches of Light Fluffy" snow expecting a least a few more.

Should I be worring about trying to get some snow off the roof of my sunny.

My 2975 just has the standard roof not the walk on rood that was offered as an option as I recall when I ordered my 2002.

Any thoughts?

The snow stopped last night total a tick over 12 in, (total), so I won't worry about it.

Over the last week we had a total of 42" (at least) but it was the heavy kind. Steve did remove it from the top of Tweety yesterday. He didn't seem that concerned but had the philosophy of better safe than sorry.

We had about 12" on the roof last year--more like 2" this year--sorry about that

. I have no idea what the roof can hold, but I get worried when the Maxxair vents disappear and the AC is just a little pile of snow. The bigger worry is if it rains before it melts that snow can hold a lot of much heavier water and that will also really test the seams. I've never let the trailer sit in spring with a load of snow on it--call it paranoia if you want--but don't break your neck or leg clearing it off either.

Well after about 10 hrs of snow blowing and shoveling to clean up around our house, and digging out an ambulance and rescue squad truck that were stuck in front of our house on their way to a call, I'm going to leave the snow on the trailer.

With all the snow we've had, it's a wonder that anything is still standing... I got to thinking about removing the snow, but haven't figured a way to do it yet. With our "landing pad" I guess the only way would be to stand in the bed of one of the pickups.. Everything around the fiver is on an angle, so ladders are not an option.

I also go by a RV storage lot, every day at work... It's right next to the tracks... There are about twenty various RV's stored there, including a Sunline 264SR! None of them have had the snow removed and have held up well.. That makes me not so worried about our Sunline. I did have Kitty fire up the furnace, to try and help melt some, but it didn't do much. I've worked so much this week, that time at home has been a minimum...

Also, if I shove the snow off the roof, there's really no place for it.. I have to enlarge our pad this summer!

One of our sons gave us a pair of Snorakes a couple of years ago.

All the auto dealers use them to clean snow of the cars on the line fast and safely. The blade is a soft, spongy material that won't damage anything.

Like henryj, when the MaxxAirs are no longer visible, I start removing snow from the roof. But if it is a heavy, wet snow, I will try to remove it right way when there is more than just a couple of inches.

A bunch of flat roofed houses in Boyertown colapsed due to snow load on the roof, so I'm feeling like if you can it's a good idea with the amount we got.

When we first bought our trailer, I called and spoke to LaRue regarding snow load on the roof of the trailer. Her response to me was they build the trailers for the North Eastern part of the United States and they are designed to hold up under a snow load. She further said then when you are concerned about the snow load on the roof of your house then you should be concerned about the snow load on the roof of your trailer. Last winter we had 2 1/2 feet of heavy snow on the roof of our trailer for over a two weeks before I was able to get to the campground to remove it and our roof was fine.

Now before the official sunline website went down I fully downloaded it. I pulled up the FAQ section of the site and the following is what it said about snow loads:

How much snow will the roof of my Sunline hold?
Sunline travel trailers are made to withstand New England winters. If the trailer roof has been maintained properly you should not have a problem. The bigger problem with snow on the roof is if the seals are not maintained, melting from snow can leak into the trailer causing damage. Check the roof seals for cracks and repair as needed. The amount of snow on the roof should not be an issue. I always tell my customers, if you are worried, take a long handled push broom and carefully push the snow off, being careful not to damage roof vents and antennas.

Personally with the amount of snow i have seen on the roof of trailers in the pictures that have been posted, I would remove it at the first chance I would get.

As always it is up to each persons own comfort level. I hope this helps.

with over 2 feet of snow falling from this last storm I cleaned the roof off,If I had the walk on roof I would not have been as concerned.

I've never cleaned the snow off my roof and have never had a problem. It has gotten to 2 feet before. I weigh about 160 and have also walked on the roof with no problems.

Would be nice to know what the roof is REALLY rated for though.

That's interesting, I always thought my roof wasn't made to walk on. I thought when i oredered the camper I could have paid extra for a walk on roof, not sure if i remember correctly back to 2002 ??

Well, we had over 2 foot of fairly heavy snow on the 311, and I wasn't gonna get up there and shovel it off.

Sunline1, you are correct. Not all roofs have plywood under them. Some do and many don’t. The ones that do not have any are not intended to be walked out without laying a protecting material down (tarp, carpet etc) and then putting some plywood pieces to span the rafters. If not, you can/will go right thru with the newer rubber/bud board roofs. A 2002 model would for sure be made with the newer light weight ways. And the walk on plywood was extra.
